Today's Pick: ATH (+110) ML @ DET

We got a win with the Tigers over the A's last night.  I like the A's over the Tigers tonight.  Flip the script and let it ride.

ATH (+110) ML @ DET

Sure, the Tigers outscored the A's last night by the score of 6-1 but I like the look of this A's lineup.  Rookie Joshua Kuroda Grauer is a nice table-setter at the top with three sluggers in Kurtz, Langeliers and Heim in the middle.  Jacob Wilson resets the table with a pair of dangerous hitters in Gelof and Thomas behind him.  Henry Bolte and Alika Williams can get on base at the bottom and both run well.  It's a well balanced lineup and I'd say the A's offense offers a significant edge tonight.

Reliever Jose Suarez (1-2) is set to open this game for the Athletics.  Suarez has pitched well.  Over his Last5 appearances, the veteran has only allowed two hits and no earned runs in 8.0 innings pitched, racking seven strikeouts while limiting opposing hitters to three walks.  I like Suarez opening the game tonight.

Jack Perkins (2-4) is set for the bulk innings. Perkins is a risk.  He is well suited for the bullpen but the A's insist on having him in the rotation.  Mostly due to a lack of alternatives.  Four walks and a pair of home runs allowed in his last appearance on July 3rd.  He did rack eight K's but allowed seven earned runs in 3.2 innings.

The A's bullpen is in good shape tonight.  Leiter Jr., Medina, Harris and Alvarado are all available to pitch.  It's a good group that has been pitching well.

The Tigers' lineup looks soft to me.  They hit a pair of homers last night off Springs.  Perkins isn't much better. They have a few bats that can poke the ball out of the yard but they have more than a few holes.  Wit

Framber Valdez (4-6) starts for Detroit.  I am a Framber fan but he hasn't been throwing the ball well of late.  In his Last2 starts, Valdez has allowed 18 hits and nine earned runs in 11.0 innings pitched.  He has only tallied three strike outs total.  That's unlike Valdez.  He might be dragging up on this Tigers' team or he might be harboring an injury.  It's his last start into the All-Star break. He could ace it but he is definitely in a slump and it isn't all that easy to right the ship with vacation on your mind.

The Tigers' bullpen isn't all that formidable.  They are a little shaky more often than not.

I like the plus money on the A's tonight.  I think this game is easily leaning 60/40 to ATH and the price at (+110) is nice.
