Game Day: Tuesday, June 7th

Beautiful summer day today. The most perfect Illinois weather.  

I took the day off from the blog yesterday; a day off for the holiday weekend.  It was nice.  I worked most of the day on my All-Snubs rosters.  I should have both rosters complete later tonight and will post them this week.  I also plan to post some thoughts on the MLB draft before the weekend.  

It's the last week of games before the All-Star break.  The game itself is next Tuesday, a week away.  The fan vote and the coaches selections, for the most part, got it right but there were some horrible snubs.  Andrew Vaughn got snubbed and he is having an MVP season.  Sonny Gray got snubbed in the AL and he could win the AL Cy Young this season. 

I studied all the players and the league leaders across both the AL and the NL over the weekend and it got me to thinking about a new format for the MLB All-Star Game.  

How about four All-Star teams?  A four-team tournament and seven days off for the All-Star break.

Two of the teams, one for each league, would be composed of players selected entirely by the fan vote.  Two additional teams would be selected by the coaches from all the players who were not voted in by the fans.  The All-Stars and the All-Snubs.

The AL All-Stars Fan-Team would play the AL All-Stars Coaches Team and the NL All-Stars Fan-Team would play the NL All-Stars Coaches Team.  Winners face off in the All-Star Championship Game.  All the players on all four teams earn All-Star recognition.  

There would be no extra innings in any game including the Championship.  The HR Derby on Friday determines the winner of each game in the event of a tie at the end of nine innings.  

Four players from each team must participate in the Home Run Derby.  Home Run Derby participants are named after all four All-Star rosters are compiled.  

I think this sort of All-Star tournament would give the fans a real rooting interest in both the Home Run Derby and the All-Star game itself.  

Everything in MLB is difficult to do when it comes to the schedule and days off and another exhibition game for stars who are paid substantially to play for their respective teams is a challenge but it is all about perspective.  A spring training game is just as risky as the All-Star game.

Postgame Report: MIN -1.5 (-120) Loss

It's 8-2 in the eighth.  Twins lost this one.  Joe Ryan had a bad game.  I'm not looking into this one too far. I picked the game I liked the most, it was the heaviest favorite on the board outside of the Orioles and the pitching matchup, in my opinion, was as good as it gets. Today's Pick: A 2 Team Parlay

I have 1.56 units in play after yesterday's quasi-disappointment.   I'm going to rack a unit, and play a two team parlay tonight.  I've been stuck on 32 units banked for two weeks now.   I can't stand the number 32.  It has everything to do with Magic Johnson.  I don't like magic and I don't like Johnson.   Anyhow, now that we have 33 units in the bank, I feel better. Jose Canseco wore number 33.  Still one of my favorite players of all time.   No analysis today, I'm just making a pick.  My season for the most part is over.  I have 0.56 units in play, 4.0 units in my account, and 33 units in the bank.   The pick is a parlay on the Astros (-350) ML / Blue Jays (-175) ML for a (+105) payout. Postgame Report: MIL (-130) Winner

The Brewers kept it rolling last night, winning their fifth game in a row with a 7-2 victory over the Braves.   Joey Wentz cruised through the first two innings.  He had three K's and retired six in a row.   Brewer's center fielder Blake Perkins led off the third with a base hit.  Danny Jansen flew out to right.  Perkins stole second base.  Nine hole hitter Joey Ortiz put the ball in the gap and recorded an infield single that moved the runner to third.  Leadoff hitter Caleb Durbin walked to load the bases.   Bases loaded with one out.   Joey Wentz got a shallow fly ball from William Contreras.  Two down with Christian Yellich at the plate.  He got ahead 0-2 on Yellich and made a good pitch with the curveball but the veteran didn't chase.  Yellich collected an RBI on an infield hit that scored Perkins from third.  It's a 1-0 game.  Andrew Vaughn at the plate.  Wentz got ahead of Vaughn 0-2 and...
