Game Day: Sunday, July 5th

It's Sunday.

It was an anticlimactic celebration on this side of town.

I'm happy the holiday has past.  For some reason, the Fourth of July saddens me.  The spirit of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence fails to emerge from the pit.  The fireworks by Macy's are more about the tradition of fireworks on the Fourth than they are a celebration of this nation's most important date.  The founding of this country, its' Declaration of Independence from the King of England and the Bill of Rights that was put in place protecting the freedoms of every man in his pursuit of a good life, with liberty and justice for all.

The entire country should shut down for the entire four-day weekend.  Only Walmart, the gas stations, the convenience stores and the bars and diners should remain open.  A COVID like shut-down of the entire country not in fear of death but in celebration of the freedom to live a good life.

A track and field event on Friday afternoon, the Home-Run Derby and a Friday night fight-card of championship boxing.  The only game over the weekend would be the MLB All-Star game on Saturday.  A big day of races on Sunday.  Drag races early in the morning, Indy Car in the afternoon and a NASCAR race at night.  An endurance race like an Iron-Man sort of competition would span the entire four-day weekend and a Cannonball Run sort of event that starts on one coast and ends on the other would also be fun to follow.

The only live music entertainment would be the National Anthem played by a symphony orchestra.  No singing and no official languages.  Each year, after the NASCAR race on Sunday, the orchestra would put forth an entire concert too.   After the concert, the fireworks would conclude the festivities.

No niggers rapping, no fucking Metallica, no soul singers singing gospel or pop stars popping their fat asses around stage.

No preachers or churches or crosses either.  Religion wouldn't be part of the celebration.  Your right to practice your religion, to wear your crosses and to congregate in your churches would be celebrated.  Your right to rap on stage, to play your fucking loud guitars like a devil from hell or to sing a gospel tune in admonishment to your faith would be the focus of the celebration.

Monday would be quiet.  One more day to enjoy the peace and remember the principles of what this country was founded on before the machine fires back up.

Resume your rapping and your popping on Tuesday but remember how vital and important it is to honor the spirit of freedom.  Remember how important it is to fight evil and to fight oppression and to fight for some good in this world.

That's it for the Pickstreak this weekend.  No more posts until Tuesday.  No pick today and no posts on Monday either.  I'm going to pretend my vision is a reality.

We'll resume our work on Tuesday too.  I am thankful for the freedoms I do have to be able to follow MLB as a fan, as a writer and as a gambler.  I believe in this country as being founded with good principles and in good faith.  In a spirit that is strong and full of promise and of peace for all.
