Today's Pick: "Stinkin' Dodgers" Two-Team Parlay

"Dodgers?  We don't need no stinking Dodgers!"  I'm no fan of the Stinkin' Dodgers but I like Ohtani on the bump tonight in Pittsburgh.

I am no fan of the Dirty Tigers either but Framber is my guy and he gets the ball tonight in Detroit.

These are the two games I like the most tonight.  It's been a losing season thus far for the Pickstreak blog but I've looked closely at the losses and we are a base hit or two in a game or two from being up five units as opposed to being down five units.  There is no law that says our luck must turn around but I feel like I'm playing well and I am enjoying the season so let's run it.

This parlay pays out at (+134) and that isn't exceptional but I ran some rough numbers through my squid brain and I feel like the value on this bet is fair.

LAD (-200) ML @ PIT

I do not understand how Yamamoto goes off at (-370) last week and Ohtani is at (-200) but I won't complain about it.  If there is something I am missing, so be it, but all the numbers point to Ohtani as being as effective as Yamamoto this season.  Ohtani (6-2) has only allowed 30 hits all season.  He has posted a miniscule 0.74 ERA and 0.79 WHIP over 60.1 innings of work.  He also leads the league in batted ball luck, it isn't necessarily a bad thing but it says that he could be due for some regression.  Still, the xFIP (expected Fielding Independent Pitching metric) has him in the top15 of all qualified starters this season and that's good enough for me.

Jared Jones (1-0) makes his third start of the season.  Jones did pitch 5.0 innings of scoreless baseball in his last start against the Astros but he hasn't established himself as a pitcher that can get six innings. He is still green if you ask me about it.  I think he is unlikely to get six innings tonight and the Pirates' bullpen can't be counted on.

It was an awful train wreck last night but Pittsburgh manager, Don Kelly, did a good job limiting the damage to a pair of relievers.  For the most part, the Pirates' bullpen is in good order tonight.  Carmen Mlodzinski is available out of the Pirates' bullpen and he could factor in but they haven't pitched well as a group this season.

The Pirates have dropped four games in a row and have slumped some on offense. Ohtani is set on winning that Cy Young award this season and will be well prepared to throw six innings.  Dodgers' bullpen has a few good arms well rested.

A lot to overcome tonight for the Pirates.  Five good innings from Jared Jones and a strong outing from Mlodzinski is a recipe for a win tonight but they have to get some hits and score some runs and the Dodgers' pitching has been really good.  Ohtani is an ace even if his BABIP says he has gotten lucky.  I like the Dodgers to win this game tonight.

It's a 5:40 PM CDT first pitch from PNC Park in Pittsburgh, PA.

DET (-180) ML vs. MIN

Is Framber back on his game?  I think he is and it's a home start tonight for Valdez (3-4) who is still getting used to this Tigers' team.  It's a new team for Valdez and that takes some time but he is a veteran and a professional who loves to throw the ball.  Valdez is going to get his innings.  It's what he loves the most.  Chomping innings.

I've been a Framber fan for years and that carries into tonight's game.  As a Framber fan, you can sort of get the sense when the bull is getting ready to roll and I feel like that home win versus Seattle last week was the start of a good run for him.  This is a guy who has been consistently solid his entire career.  It's why they paid him the big bucks this off-season.  He gets in a rhythm and puts in quality innings.

Mike Parades looks set to open this game for Minnesota. Parades has only pitched 7.1 innings in MLB.  Four earned runs in two appearances.  His MiLB numbers aren't terrible but he isn't getting six innings tonight.  That makes it a bullpen game for the Twins and they are a green group.  You can safely say Minnesota has one of the five softest bullpens in MLB this season. It's a stretch to say they will shut down the Tigers tonight who look like they are starting to hit the ball. Tigers have scored five or more runs in six of seven games since June 1st.  I like the Tigers to get a win.

It's a 5:40 PM CDT start from Comerica Park in Detroit, MI.
