Today's Pick: "DC to the Desert" Two Team Parlay (+175)
Chase Burns was the hot ticket today but it looks like he has been scratched from his start due to an illness.
I had planned on playing a three-team parlay. It is now a two-team ticket. The Chase Burns show is cancelled but Cavalli and Sheehan will play two with a knick knack paddy wack give a dog a bone.
WAS (-140) ML vs. MIA
I like the Nationals at (-140) tonight. Miami brings a five-game losing streak into DC and is at the tail end of a nine-game road trip.
Sandy Alcantara (3-4) starts for Miami and hasn't pitched well in May. He's posted a 7.39 ERA over his Last5 starts. Woof. Alcantara has been banged like a trash can in his Last2: 19 hits, 14 earned runs and five homers in 10.1 innings pitched.
The Marlins' bullpen is rickety. They moved Tyler Phillips into the rotation and have called up a pair of AAA arms to get them through this series. This team is dog-tired. Their bullpen is currently ten arms deep with injuries to the rotation (Junk, Garrett and Snelling) but they aren't a cohesive unit.
Cade Cavalli (3-3) starts for the Nationals. Cavalli leads the league in hit-batsman. He beaned three in his last start against the Marlins on May 10th but he only allowed four hits and two earned in that game. Cavalli has only allowed three home runs all season. His 0.5 HR/9 over 59.2 innings this season is one of the best marks in MLB when you consider the quantity of innings pitched. Cavalli racks K's and doesn't give up homers and I like that in a starting pitcher.
Nats' bullpen is their biggest weakness but they will have Lord, Lovelady and Varland in middle relief tonight should they need to make an early call.
I like Cade Cavalli to get the Nats six innings tonight and think they can score some runs off a tired Marlins' pitching staff.
It's a 5:45 PM CDT start from Nationals Park in Washington D.C.
LAD (-165) ML @ AZD
Eduardo Rodriguez (5-1) starts for AZ and had himself a sterling May. He posted a 1.60 ERA over his last 33.2 innings. Give him credit, he has taken care of business and is pitching well but the Dodgers are a different sort of lineup to navigate.
Emmett Sheehan (3-1) starts for LA. Sheehan hasn't pitched as well as Rodriguez when you consider that he has posted a 4.26 ERA over his last Last5 starts. It's 2.62 runs higher than E-Rod's number and that's a significant disadvantage but I like that Sheehan has tallied 31 K's to only 5 BB's over his last 25.2 innings. That's good for a 6.20 K/BB ratio and that's elite. 8K/1BB in his last start against Colorado.
Arizona's bullpen has pitched a lot better than most could have expected this season but it is still a green group. The Dodger's have the best bullpen in MLB and are well rested. LA has an advantage in the latter innings tonight.
I think Sheehan is the better starter and I like the Dodger's to test the veteran Rodriguez. His resurgence in 2026 is starting to look legitimate. If you recall, last season, Rodriguez had some epic blow ups. Could we be due for a classic "Arizona E-Rod" desert bombshelling?
The D'Backs are legitimate playoff contenders but they aren't as strong of a team as LA. The Dodgers are a 110 win baseball team. They are going to win two out of three all season and at (-165), I feel like the price on the Dodger's is good tonight. There is an edge in that number.
That's the pick for Monday. I like the plus money (+175) on this parlay bet. A win will be a nice start to the week.
