Today's Pick: "BBQ Poached Salmon" Three-Team Parlay
I dug in on four games, I like three of the four. I'm having a difficult time betting against the Mets. Their lineup looks stacked with Alvarez healthy and Jared Young getting at-bats. Young adds some slugging and is swinging the bat well. I have some sort of feeling that the Mets are going to go on a run despite their pitching woes.
With the Mets out of the way tonight. I like the Phillies, Nationals and Rangers in a three-team parlay that pays out at (+342).
PHI (-190) ML vs. MIA
Zack Wheeler (5-1) starts for Philadelphia. Wheeler has been good for a quality start in seven of nine starts this season. Philly's bullpen is well-rested and has been throwing the ball very well. If Wheeler can post a QS tonight, I like Philly to win this game.
Ryan Gusto (0-1) starts for Miami. Gusto has only pitched 9.0 innings this season and his longest appearance, a start on June 10th, lasted just 4.0 innings. Gusto pitched well in that game. He only allowed three hits and didn't give up a run. He got the yank because he isn't fully stretched out as a starter. The Marlins' bullpen is broiled after a long weekend in Pittsburgh. 156 pitches on Saturday, another 46 on Sunday. Big advantage on the start and a big advantage in the bullpen tonight for Philadelphia. I feel like the price on this game is fair at (-190). First pitch at 5:40 PM CDT from Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, PA.
KCR (-130) ML vs. WAS
Royals travel last night and are feeling good after a 4-0 win but the Nationals also have a winning streak on the line heading into the series and the Nats are swatting the ball.
It's not the Nat's offense so much that I'm betting on tonight, or the Nat's pitching for that matter. I'm betting against Mitch Spence and the Royals' bullpen in this one.
Spence (0-1) starts for KC. He hasn't logged any MLB innings since April 18th, he was shelled in his sole appearance. His 6.54 ERA in 42.2 innings in AAA Omaha this season didn't justify the call. The Royals are short and Spence is the only guy with MLB experience.
The Nats are a good hitting ball club. They could put a crooked number on Spence early and that will be good for the young rookie, Andrew Alvarez. Alvarez (1-0), who starts for DC, has put in some good work this season posting a 3.70 ERA over 24.1 innings pitched.
KC's bullpen is rested but Lynch is their best and it's unlikely he throws having pitched both Saturday and Sunday. Nats' bullpen looks to be well-rested and oddly strong with Orlando Ribalta and Clayton Beeter at the top.
I like the Nats to get a win tonight. It's a 5:45 PM CDT start from Nationals Park in Washington DC.
TEX (-160) ML vs. MIN
Mackenzie Gore (4-5) starts for Texas. Gore hasn't pitched great but he hasn't been that bad either. 76 K's in 71 innings on the season is solid. His HR/9 (home runs per nine innings) of 0.76 is a nice mark as well.
Mike Paredes (0-0) starts for Minnesota. He is unlikely to get six innings. He is unlikely to get five innings. His longest appearance of the season was 3.2 innings on June 3rd. He gave up a dinger and three earned runs in that one. He has issued six walks in 10.1 innings, walks are likely with Paredes and that could spell trouble early. The Twins' bullpen isn't overly worked but they did throw their top3 in yesterday's 5-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Twins have hit the ball over the past two weeks. Royce Lewis is back in the lineup after destroying AAA pitching for a month. Langford and Seager are back for Texas. I can see this being a high scoring game but Gore can get six and Paredes is unlikely to do so. I like the Rangers to score some runs tonight and that hedges Gore to some degree.
Both teams traveled, Texas is the home team. Gore with a hedge against Paredes and the Twins' bullpen. I like this pick and the price at (-160), it's high, but I'm going to lay the long odds. It's a 7:05 PM CDT start from Globe Life Field in Arlington, TX.
I feel like I'm paying too much on all three games tonight but those are the picks I like and I'm not going to worry so much about the odds. Three team parlay, three home teams on my card, I like that. Barbeque poached salmon and rice for dinner. Let's start this week out with a win.
