Pick Result: "Stinkin' Dodgers" Two-Team Parlay - LOSS

Dodgers had a 6-1 lead after five innings, Ohtani was cruising and this game looked like a win.  88 pitches into the seventh, Dave Roberts has Ohtani work the seventh.  Tyler Callahan battles him for an eight-pitch walk.  Jake Mangum collects a base hit and it's first and third with no outs.  Ohtani bears down.  He nails Jared Triolo on three pitches.  He offers a 100 mph four-seamer to Spencer Horwitz and strikes him out with the sweeper.  Two down, Brandon Lowe at the plate.  Ohtani is working the heater on the outside of the plate and he isn't getting the calls.  3-0 to Lowe, he gets the green light and knocks a fastball into the gap for a double.  That's it for Ohtani, 6.2 innings, 102 pitches, 3ER, it could have sent better but it's a quality start and he was in line for the win into the eighth.  

Kyle Hurt exploaded in the eighth and the Pirates steal a game from the Dodgers.  A ninth inning home run from Ohtani wasn't enough.  It's a 9-8 Pirates win.  

All the credit in the world to Ohtani for not calling for the ABS in the at-bat to Brandon Lowe.  Two pitches could have gone either way.  Both were close.  Ohtani didn't call for a challenge and I appreciate him for that.  

The Tigers were under a rain delay when I first checked the scores.  Rain delays are never good.  When I saw that it was a rain delay between the top and the bottom of the first, with Framber having thrown the ball in the top half of the inning, I didn't think the start was going to go well.  It was a long delay, 67 minutes, and Framber was cranky.  With the score tied at 1-1, Valdez beaned both Alex Jackson and Austin Martin to begin the fifth inning.  Byron Buxton made him pay.  A three-run homer made it 4-1 Twins.  He should have beaned Buxton too.

Valdez did a good job of keeping it together last night, had a good start for the most part but it got late and he lost his cool.  The Tigers' bats took a nap and didn't wake up for the game when play resumed. A late run

Tigers lose 5-4.  Valdez moves to (3-5) on the season.  Credit to Mike Paredes and the Twins' bullpen last night, they had a good game as a group, 14 K's, only seven hits allowed, and they didn't allow a home run.  Walks were high but four earned runs in a bullpen game is a good night anyway you slice it.  

It's a loss for the Pickstreak blog and that has been the norm this season.  There are a pair of games that I am interested in today but I have been dealing with torrential rains and am swamped today.

Today's Pick: A 2 Team Parlay

I have 1.56 units in play after yesterday's quasi-disappointment.   I'm going to rack a unit, and play a two team parlay tonight.  I've been stuck on 32 units banked for two weeks now.   I can't stand the number 32.  It has everything to do with Magic Johnson.  I don't like magic and I don't like Johnson.   Anyhow, now that we have 33 units in the bank, I feel better. Postgame Report: NYY (-215) Winner

That's six wins in a row for the Pickstreak blog.  We crushed that pick into the upperdeck. Carlos Rodon had a great start in front of the New York crowd and the Yanks' bats scored nine runs and hit three homers.  Twins' starter Travis Adams was out of the game in the third.  Minnesota's bullpen gave up seven hits, seven walks and five earned.   The Yanks bullpen locked it down.  Yankees win 9-1. The Yankees were not a sure thing.  Rodon had two fairly bad starts coming into last night's contest.  The Yankees were 3-7 over their last ten and the Twins had played some good baseball.   Following the game closely everyday, you can pick up on some minutia that isn't necessarily in the stats or in the boxscores.   I feel like this series with the Twins is a turning point for the Yankees' season.  I think the Yanks are going to win some games in August with Luis Gil, Cam Schlittler and Will Warren all turning it up a notch....

Postgame Report: MIN -1.5 (-120) Loss

It's 8-2 in the eighth.  Twins lost this one.  Joe Ryan had a bad game.  I'm not looking into this one too far. I picked the game I liked the most, it was the heaviest favorite on the board outside of the Orioles and the pitching matchup, in my opinion, was as good as it gets. Mitchell Parker had a good game.  One thing I can't understand is why Rocco Baldelli stacked his lineup with righties to start the game.  I get that Parker is a lefty but if you look at his splits and you look at his pitch stats, you can see clearly that he gets outs against right handed hitters and gets mashed by lefties.   Baldelli left all three of his lefties on the bench tonight.  Both of the Twins switch hitters took at bats from the right hand side of the plate.  Eight righties in the Twins lineup tonight opened up Parker's game and he got the win.   I noticed it before the game started.  I should have taken the bet off but thought that Ryan and th...
