Pick Result: "DC to the Desert" Parlay - LOSS

MIA 7 - WAS 3

It was 3-1 Nationals early and Cade Cavalli pitched well.  He could have went six innings last night.  Nationals manager, Blake Butera, decided to pull him in the top of the sixth inning.  Cavalli had thrown 89 pitches, gave up a lead-off single to Leo Jimenez and got the hook.  Lefty Richard Lovelady got the call and promptly gave up a home run ball to Marlins' outfielder Heriberto Hernandez.  Lovelady pegs the next batter he faces and gives up the go-ahead hit, a double off the bat of Connor Norby.  It's 4-3 Marlins after sixth.

Cavalli's Line:  5.0IP 5H 2ER 0HR - 6K 3BB

I get the impression that Sandy Alcantara can pull a win out of his pocket at any time and that he mails it in on occassion due to some sort of misalignment with the Marlins' management. Alcantara's numbers last night weren't spectacular on the surface but he had only thrown 65 pitches through five innings. He got the Marlins 7.0 innings when they needed long innings from their starter.  It was Alcantara who won this game last night.  He's throwing 99 mph in the seventh inning, racking K's.  This guy is a small adjustment away from dominating.  It is difficult to bet on him because he doesn't care about winning with this team but it is equally difficult to bet against him because he is still one of the best pitchers in MLB.

Alcantara's Line:  7.0IP 7H 3ER 1HR - 5K 0BB

The Nationals' bullpen takes the loss in this one and that isn't out of the ordinary.  I was betting on another Sandy Alcantara blow up and Sandy Alcantara showed up. He is Jekyll and Hyde.

AZD 4 - LAD 1

To the desert.  The Dodgers dropped the opener of a four-game series with the Diamonbacks, 4-1.  Our guy Emmett Sheehan had it going into the sixth inning.   He had only given up one hit and had only thrown 68 pitches.  Tommy Troy got him for a solo homer in the sixth.  Nolan Arenado took him deep, another solo shot, in the seventh and that was all she wrote.  Sheehan only allowed three hits in this game over 6.1 innings of work but takes the loss tonight.

Sheehan's Line:  6.1IP 3H 2ER 2HR -- 3K 0BB

Credit "Arizona E-Rod" and the Diamondbacks' bullpen with the win.  Eduardo Rodriguez was on the brink of disaster in both the second and the third but escaped having only allowed one earned run.  It easily could have been four or five runs but the Dodgers failed to get the big hit last night.

Rodriguez's Line:  6.0IP 5H 1ER 0HR - 3K 1BB

E-Rod breezed through the middle innings and the D'Backs bullpen locked it down with three scoreless.  Rodriguez collects his fifth win of the season.  The verdict is in.  E-Rod passed the test and can be considered a legitimate front of the rotation starting pitcher once again.

0-2 last night on the picks and our parlay bet is a loss.  I liked both picks.  I feel like both games easily could have went in our favor.  If Cavalli gets six innings and the Nats carry a lead into the seventh, it changes the game.  If the Dodgers get the big hit in the top of the second and clear the bases, they likely win that game.
