Pick Result: CLE (-125) ML @ TEX - LOSS

The game didn't go our way last night and it's another loss for the Pickstreak blog. A 3-2 win for the Texas Rangers.

Parker Messick had only thrown 63 pitches into the sixth inning and had a 2-0 lead.  The Guardians' hurler had Kyle Higashioka down 0-2 but couldn't get the Ranger's catcher to chase a pitch out of the zone.  Higashioka worked the count full and put a 3-2 sinker ball into the left field stands.  Losing Higashioka to lead off the sixth inning rattled Messick.  Wyatt Langford knocked him for a double and Corey Seager took him deep, the second homer allowed in the inning.  3-2 Rangers.  

Ramirez, DeLauter, Manzardo, Schneemann and Rocchio combined for an 0-18 night at the plate.  My lefty theory didn't hold water.  Rocker shut them down last night.  Travis Bazzana did get him for a solo homer in the first but Rocker settled in and escaped Cleveland's lefty gauntlet.  The right only allowed two earned runs on six hits.  

Langford and Seager help the Rangers to a win in their first game back from the IR but it was Higashioka's at-bat that cracked Messick.  Credit to Kumar Rocker and the Rangers' bullpen.  Peyton Gray and Jalen Beeks combined for 2.0 scoreless innings.  Jacob Latz gets a two-inning save to close it out, his ninth of the season.  

Credit also goes out to Ranger's manager, Skip Schumaker, for his savvy use of his bullpen.  Getting Latz in late for a pair of innings in a one-run game was a nice call.  

It's a loss for the Pickstreak and we move on having now dropped five bets in a row.  We may be losing bets but we are playing well and that is what is most important.  In the long run, good risk management and a concerted effort to extract an edge in the numbers will produce some wins.  It will pain me to fall short of my goal two seasons in a row.  To lose to the book hurts my heart more than it hurts my pocket but if I put forth my best effort I can walk away happy at the end of the season.

Today's Pick: A 2 Team Parlay

I have 1.56 units in play after yesterday's quasi-disappointment.   I'm going to rack a unit, and play a two team parlay tonight.  I've been stuck on 32 units banked for two weeks now.   I can't stand the number 32.  It has everything to do with Magic Johnson.  I don't like magic and I don't like Johnson.   Anyhow, now that we have 33 units in the bank, I feel better. Postgame Report: NYY (-215) Winner

That's six wins in a row for the Pickstreak blog.  We crushed that pick into the upperdeck. Carlos Rodon had a great start in front of the New York crowd and the Yanks' bats scored nine runs and hit three homers.  Twins' starter Travis Adams was out of the game in the third.  Minnesota's bullpen gave up seven hits, seven walks and five earned.   The Yanks bullpen locked it down.  Yankees win 9-1. The Yankees were not a sure thing.  Rodon had two fairly bad starts coming into last night's contest.  The Yankees were 3-7 over their last ten and the Twins had played some good baseball.   Following the game closely everyday, you can pick up on some minutia that isn't necessarily in the stats or in the boxscores.   I feel like this series with the Twins is a turning point for the Yankees' season.  I think the Yanks are going to win some games in August with Luis Gil, Cam Schlittler and Will Warren all turning it up a notch....

Postgame Report: MIN -1.5 (-120) Loss

It's 8-2 in the eighth.  Twins lost this one.  Joe Ryan had a bad game.  I'm not looking into this one too far. I picked the game I liked the most, it was the heaviest favorite on the board outside of the Orioles and the pitching matchup, in my opinion, was as good as it gets. Mitchell Parker had a good game.  One thing I can't understand is why Rocco Baldelli stacked his lineup with righties to start the game.  I get that Parker is a lefty but if you look at his splits and you look at his pitch stats, you can see clearly that he gets outs against right handed hitters and gets mashed by lefties.   Baldelli left all three of his lefties on the bench tonight.  Both of the Twins switch hitters took at bats from the right hand side of the plate.  Eight righties in the Twins lineup tonight opened up Parker's game and he got the win.   I noticed it before the game started.  I should have taken the bet off but thought that Ryan and th...
