MLB Sunday Recap: Sunday, May 31st

It was a good week for the Pickstreak blog that ended with a loss on our largest bet of the year.   It would have been a nice win.  It would have been nice to enter June with a winning streak on the line.

Today is the last day of May.  Four more months left in the regular season.  

Lets look at some streaks and trends around the league.

Winning Streaks:

*6W - Mariners - host the Mets Monday night at Safeco Field.
*5W - White Sox - at Minnesota to start the week.  
*4W - Mets - travel east to west to Seattle
*3W - Rangers and Pirates have won three in a row 

Last 10 Games:

(8-2) - Dodgers, Mariners 
(7-3) - White Sox, Orioles, Astros, Brewers 

(3-7) - A's, Giants, Padres, Cubs, Cardinals, Rockies
(2-8) - Royals, Tigers

Losing Streaks:

*6L - Royals - Travel from Texas to Cincinnati
*5L - Marlins - Travel from NYC to DC
*5L - Twins - Travel home after a nine-game road trip
*4L - Tigers - Travel to from Chicago to Tampa
*3L - Diamondbacks - host the Dodgers 

Royals, Marlins and Tigers have losing streaks weighing them down in the midst of extended road trips.  Their bullpens are likely to be softening up some.  

It's Chase Burns vs. Luinder Avila tomorrow in Cincinnati.  That game is looking good.  I like Joe Ryan against the White Sox too.  Joe Ryan likes pitching against the White Sox.  Ill dig out his career numbers vs. the White Sox for tomorrow's post.

That's about it tonight.  It has been a long day.  Let's see if we can't get back to our winning ways tomorrow.

Today's Pick: A 2 Team Parlay

I have 1.56 units in play after yesterday's quasi-disappointment.   I'm going to rack a unit, and play a two team parlay tonight.  I've been stuck on 32 units banked for two weeks now.   I can't stand the number 32.  It has everything to do with Magic Johnson.  I don't like magic and I don't like Johnson.   Anyhow, now that we have 33 units in the bank, I feel better. Jose Canseco wore number 33.  Still one of my favorite players of all time.   No analysis today, I'm just making a pick.  My season for the most part is over.  I have 0.56 units in play, 4.0 units in my account, and 33 units in the bank.   The pick is a parlay on the Astros (-350) ML / Blue Jays (-175) ML for a (+105) payout. Postgame Report: NYY (-215) Winner

That's six wins in a row for the Pickstreak blog.  We crushed that pick into the upperdeck. Carlos Rodon had a great start in front of the New York crowd and the Yanks' bats scored nine runs and hit three homers.  Twins' starter Travis Adams was out of the game in the third.  Minnesota's bullpen gave up seven hits, seven walks and five earned.   The Yanks bullpen locked it down.  Yankees win 9-1. The Yankees were not a sure thing.  Rodon had two fairly bad starts coming into last night's contest.  The Yankees were 3-7 over their last ten and the Twins had played some good baseball.   Following the game closely everyday, you can pick up on some minutia that isn't necessarily in the stats or in the boxscores.   I feel like this series with the Twins is a turning point for the Yankees' season.  I think the Yanks are going to win some games in August with Luis Gil, Cam Schlittler and Will Warren all turning it up a notch....

Postgame Report: MIN -1.5 (-120) Loss

It's 8-2 in the eighth.  Twins lost this one.  Joe Ryan had a bad game.  I'm not looking into this one too far. I picked the game I liked the most, it was the heaviest favorite on the board outside of the Orioles and the pitching matchup, in my opinion, was as good as it gets. Mitchell Parker had a good game.  One thing I can't understand is why Rocco Baldelli stacked his lineup with righties to start the game.  I get that Parker is a lefty but if you look at his splits and you look at his pitch stats, you can see clearly that he gets outs against right handed hitters and gets mashed by lefties.   Baldelli left all three of his lefties on the bench tonight.  Both of the Twins switch hitters took at bats from the right hand side of the plate.  Eight righties in the Twins lineup tonight opened up Parker's game and he got the win.   I noticed it before the game started.  I should have taken the bet off but thought that Ryan and th...
