Game Day: Tuesday, June 9th
It is going to be an interesting run into the All-Star break.
I'm looking at the standings and it's a weird distribution.
There are many teams that I don't want to give any credit to: Rays, White Sox, Cardinals, Twins, Nationals.
And more than a few teams I want to give too much credit too: Tigers, Blue Jays, Red Sox, Mets and the Reds.
I tried to write the Angels off and couldn't. They could make a run with some new faces on the bench. The Royals pulling a 180°, that is seemingly the script every season. Casey Schmitt on the Giants is an all-star. Luis Arraez is a great hitter. If Devers starts raking and Eldridge finds his power stroke, that Giants team has a dangerous lineup.
The Mets are playing good baseball. The Reds are holding on awaiting the return of Hunter Greene and Elly De La Cruz.
The All-Star break is scheduled for July 13th. The trade deadline is August 2nd and is in many ways a mystery as we enter the second week of June.
The games played this month will paint a clearer picture. We could even have a big trade before the conclusion of June. It's going to be very interesting to see how teams approach this years' trade deadline with the Collective Bargaining Agreement set to expire at the end of the '26 season. Whose buying and whose selling at the end of July?
I'm excited to see how it plays out this month. I'm rooting for the Mets to turn it around and for the Red Sox to get hot. I'm rooting for the White Sox and the Rays to keep it rolling. I'm rooting for the Rangers and the A's and the Padres.
I'd like to see 26 teams within 6 games of the wild card on July 1st. That will make for an exciting July and an exciting trade deadline.
A lot of baseball left to be played this summer and a great slate of games on deck tonight.
Paul Skenes (6-5) is at home versus the Dodgers. Zach Wheeler (5-1) and Dylan Cease (3-3) square up at the Rogers Centre in Toronto. Freddy Peralta (4-4) and the Mets take on the Cardinals. Garrett Cole (1-1) is back in action for the Yanks and Max Meyer (6-0) is pumped up for a home start. Fish and Snakes from Loan Depot Park in Miami.
I'm excited for the games tonight. I'll be back before post time with Today's Pick. Stay tuned.
