Game Day: Tuesday, June 16th

I had an idea yesterday and it's blocking me some this morning so I'm going to expound on it here on the blog.

The idea was for a baseball-themed coffee shop.  I call it Coffee On-Deck and each location would have a few unique features in it's design and construction.

Coffee On-Deck would be more similar to Dutch Bros. in that no customers could sit inside the restaurant but we would differentiate from Dutch Bros. in that each location would have a large deck built and attached to the vendor where customers could sit in the mornings.  Dutch Bros. only has one or two tables and is mostly drive thru.  We would have no drive thru window.

Each deck would also have stadium seating and a big movie screen where customers could sit in the stands and watch the games.  Grab a coffee, take a seat in the stands and watch your favorite team in an outdoor theater at Coffee On-Deck.  One free refill on all drip coffee.

We'd serve other beverages too but no sugar soda and no dairy products.  The coffee shop would be 100% vegan.  If you requested cream in your coffee, it would be akin to a Cafe Misto with oat milk from Starbucks, and that is a very good coffee drink.  We'd have vegan breakfast sandwiches and vegan eggs.  Potatos.  Tofu.  Bagels. Waffles.  We'd sell day old bagels because bagels are designed for longevity.  That is what a bagel is all about.

I don't know how the local games are broadcast anymore, Draft Kings, HBO, Amazon, MLB.TV, it's all nonsense.  It ruins my coffee shop plans to some extent because I really don't want anything to do with ESPN in any way.  I'd never have Sportscenter streaming on repeat hour after hour.  That show and all the A-holes who wear gym shoes with their slacks, they are all ridiculous.  ESPN is ridiculous and everybody who works for ESPN is ridiculous too.

I wouldn't show Fox Sports Net either or any of the other horrible sports programming.

I'd broadcast all the local teams games and out-of-network games as they fit in the day's schedule.  We'd have movie nights too.

I might consider airing some independent programming, podcasts, vlogs and stuff like that if they were well produced and of high quality.

The shop would close before Thanksgiving and reopen every spring when pitchers and catchers report.  In that way, every spring customers are excited to have their favorite coffee shop back and excited to sit in the stands once again.

It's a hair-brained coffee shop idea.  I have a few others but this is what is on my mind this morning, Coffee On Deck, the baseball-themed coffee shop.

We'd have a guy come around the stands every once in a while, "Coffee, Bagels, Oatbars!"

And the stands would be packed with coffee drinkers watching their favorite MLB teams.  I'd like that place as a baseball fan.  I'd watch a game there every once in a while.
