Today's Pick: "The Memorial Payday" Parlay (+177)

I had looked closely "The Miz" and the Cardinals lineup.  Ivan Herrera scares me.  The Brewers are at home with their ace on the mound but I'm going to pass on what looks like a trap game.

I do like a pair of home teams today.

CLE (-185) ML vs. WAS

The crowd at Progressive Field in Cleveland, OH should be raucous.  The Cleveland Guardians are in first place in the AL Central on Memorial Day.  That should have the stands packed and the fans fired up.

Tanner Bibee (0-6) starts for Cleveland.  Bibee has yet to record a win this season but he has been throwing the ball well.  The righty has posted a 3.08 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP over his Last5 starts.  Bibee gets lefties out and that plays well against the Nationals, who have one of the toughest left-handed stacks in all of baseball.

Speaking of lefty-stacks, Cleveland has the toughest lefty lineup in the league.  They can stack nine left-handed hitters and they very well might today against Zack Littell.

Littell (3-4) starts for the Nationals.  Littell has thrown the ball well in spots but he has only thrown more than 5.0 innings once this season.  He is averaging just 4.2 innings per start.  He has also had trouble against left-handed hitters.  Lefties have slugged him for 12 dingers and a 1.050 OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage).  Guards have a few lefty sluggers and are likely to have Littell on the bench early in this game.

The Nats' bullpen had a heavy workload over the weekend.  They are likely without both Brad Lord and Richard Lovelady, two of their best this season.  Lefty Mitchell Parker could get the call in long relief today.

Cleveland's bullpen has been good.  They have a group that has gelled.  I feel like it is an important and oft overlooked aspect of a bullpen.  Having a defined role without too much rigamarole.  A bullpen group that has pitched together for a season or two. Cleveland has accomplished that with their bullpen and its paying off this season.

First pitch at 5:10 PM CDT start at Progressive Field.  It should be a beautiful night for baseball in Cleveland, OH.

TOR (-165) ML vs. MIA

It won't be as patriotic at the Rogers Centre this evening.  It's just another ho-hum Monday in Canada.  The Canadians don't celebrate the Memorial Day holiday.

They do have the air-conditioning cranked up in the dome and Trey Yessavage likes it nice and cool.

Yessavage (2-1) makes his sixth start of the season.  The Blue Jay's rookie has yet to allow a home run this season.  He works a three-pitch mix, a four-seamer that sits 95 mph, a plus slider at 88 mph and a splitter at 82 mph.  It's the splitter that has made him so tough to hit against.  He throws with a high arm angle and a high release point and his splitter dives like no other pitch I've seen in baseball.  It's been effective.

Jansen Junk (2-5) starts for Miami.  The "Junk Yard Dog" hasn't pitched all that well over his Last3.  He has posted a 10.56 ERA and a 1.85 WHIP over his last 16.2 innings.  Woof.  The "Junk Yard Dog" is happy to be indoors in the AC this evening but I'm not sure that it will be enough to beat the Blue Jays' rookie phenom.

The Marlins bullpen was worked heavily over the weekend.  The Jays might be without Vlad tonight, he got beaned in yesterdays game against the Pirates but I like Lenyn Sosa getting some at-bats tonight.  He can hit he ball out of the ballpark.  Rogers, Varland and Hoffman are all rested in the Blue Birds' pen.

It's a 6:07 PM CDT start from the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada.

"Oh Canada!  Our Home and Native Land!"  Let's go Blue Jays.

Pickstreak needs a win tonight.
