Pick Result: "Two for the Road" Parlay -- LOSS

The Mets lost to the Nationals tonight after getting out to an early 5-0 lead.

A brief rain delay in the bottom of the second inning was enough to throw Nolan McLean off his game.  He gave up four earned runs in the second inning, three more in the third and by the end of four it was 9-5 Washington.

I didn't write the Mets off entirely at that point, there were five more innings to play, but knowing that the Mets had used six pitchers in yesterday's game, it didn't seem likely that the Mets' bullpen would hold.

The Mets stuck with McLean into the sixth and Daniel Duarte added 2.1 scoreless innings, the pitching held into the ninth, but the Mets couldn't score the runs to even the game.  It goes down as a 9-6 win for the Nationals and a tough loss for the Pickstreak blog.

If you told me the Mets were going to score six runs tonight before the game, I'd have made the bet.  McLean is on the hook for the loss tonight.  I had counted on a strong game from the Mets' ace and didn't get it tonight.

The Red Sox did their part.  It's 6-1 in the top half of the ninth.  Suarez was pulled after only 4.1 innings.  Red Sox skipper Zack Kelly went righty righty on Bobby Witt Jr. with a runner in scoring position and only one out in the fifth.  It was the right call.  Suarez had only thrown 81 pitches but was getting hit and had issued three walks.  It wasn't his sharpest outing of the season.  The Red Sox bullpen picked him up with 3.2 scoreless innings of work.  Six runs should be enough heading into the bottom of the ninth inning and this night is a wrap.

The final score doesn't matter in regards to our bet, our pick is a loss.

I have liked the picks thus far, even with the two losses, I feel like I'm getting good juice on my wagers.  I look back at the boxscores and the bets that were winners, picks that I had considered, and it's illusory.

You think for a second that you should have made this pick or that pick but that kind of thinking is unproductive.  If you start thinking like that you throw away the information and the lesson that your loss has given you.

In every loss there is something gained.  Reviewing the boxscores is important but don't second guess your picks.  You made the right pick, win or lose, it's a long season.  Don't confuse yourself by second guessing your process, your analysis and your decisions.  Take the loss, take the lesson.  Onto the next pick.
