Pick Result: TEX (-165) ML - LOSS

It was the bottom of the first inning when I checked the scores on the Superfan Sports App.  Zach Neto took the first pitch of the game from Jacob DeGrom out of the yard.  Neto is a good hitter, that happens when you challenge a good hitter.  1-0 Angels.  

DeGrom worked some good sequences to Trout and Soler.  He issued a base on balls to both.  He wasn't getting the outside strike and he wasn't getting any chase but he wasn't missing by much. He challenged left-fielder, Wade Meckler, with a first-pitch fastball, and why not?  Meckler isn't a big home run threat.  He hit his first career MLB home run off Jacob DeGrom, a three-run job, and it's 4-0 Angels after one inning of play.  Meckler gets a memory that will likely cross his mind on his dying die.  DeGrom is a legend.  

It's Grayson Rodriguez on the mound for Los Angeles.  The Rangers are in this game despite the early deficit.  This guy has had a difficult time with injuries and hasn't pitched all that well when healthy.  I followed some of his sequences, he was throwing the ball pretty well last night.  Good velo, mixing it up nicely.  Effectively wild with the curveball.  Rodriguez struck out the side in the second.  He nailed Jake Burger on three pitches.  

Angels hit tonight.  They put two more runs on the board in the third to make it a 6-0 game.  DeGrom retired early.  He is off his game.  His 2.03 HR/9 (home runs per nine innings) is concerning.  1.34 HR/9 in the '25 season.  It is also a high mark.  The home runs aren't a fluke.  He broke out the sinker in the second and he didn't throw the sinker ball at all in 2025.  It seems DeGrom is working through some challenges.  He is still hitting 97/98 mph with the four-seamer but it's getting tanked.  It's a tough loss.  In DeGrom We Trust but the SS DeGrom will be at port until the storm of home run balls has died down.

DeGrom's Line:  3.0IP 6H 6ER 2HR 3K 3BB

It's a 9-6 Angels' win.  Rangers made it interesting and were a play at the plate away from tying up the score in the seventh.  That play didn't go their way and the bullpen couldn't hold tonight.  

Credit the Angels' bats with the win.  Nine runs wins a large distribution of games.  The Halos can put together some runs on occassion.  Grayson Rodriguez gets the win from the scorekeepers.  His first since the 2024 season.  He moves to (1-1) on the season.

Rodriguez's Line:  5.2IP 7H 4ER 1HR 5K 2BB

That's four losses in a row for the Pickstreak blog.  I sort of feel like the Mets.  I think the Mets can turn it around this season and if the Mets can turn it around so can the Pickstreak blog.  Let's not go putting our eggs in the same basket.  Let's just say that a little good luck would benefit both organizations.

We haven't banked any units this season and are already at an 8% drawdown.  Last season we didn't have an 8% drawdown until August.  It's a troublesome losing streak but I have liked all my picks and will keep putting in the effort to turn this zephyr around.  We are traveling by blimp until further notice.

Today's Pick: CIN (-165) over MIA

Today's Pick: A 2 Team Parlay

I have 1.56 units in play after yesterday's quasi-disappointment.   I'm going to rack a unit, and play a two team parlay tonight.  I've been stuck on 32 units banked for two weeks now.   I can't stand the number 32.  It has everything to do with Magic Johnson.  I don't like magic and I don't like Johnson.   Anyhow, now that we have 33 units in the bank, I feel better. Jose Canseco wore number 33.  Still one of my favorite players of all time.   No analysis today, I'm just making a pick.  My season for the most part is over.  I have 0.56 units in play, 4.0 units in my account, and 33 units in the bank.   The pick is a parlay on the Astros (-350) ML / Blue Jays (-175) ML for a (+105) payout. Wednesday, August 6th: No Pick Today

No pick today, there isn't much on the board that I liked.  I didn't dig into any games but the Giants and the Pirates early this morning.  I liked the Giants but they don't hit left handed pitching all that well and Pirates had a well rested bullpen.  The Giants won that game 4-2.   I had thought about putting on my three dogs play with the Rangers, Reds and the Royals.  The Reds are down 6-0.  That would have been a loser.   There are some games later this afternoon and some late games too but I am going to take a pass on the action today and see if I can find a good spot tomorrow.   I'm sitting at 5.36 units in play and have a four game Pickstreak on the line.  We'll look to make it five in a row tomorrow.
