Pick Result: "The Second Dimension" Parlay - LOSS

I was up late following the scores.  It was a nice and cool night.  I was resigned to a loss and fell asleep in the ninth inning of the A's and Padres game.  Padres were up 2-0 and it was certain to be Miller in the ninth.  

Checking the scores this morning, "The Second Dimension" parlay is a loss.  We missed on both picks.

A's fall 2-0 to the Padres

The Padres' closer shut down his former team to earn his 16th save on the season.  The Padres' bullpen won the game and that has been the story with San Diego for a while now.  They win close ballgames.  

It was Estrada to Morejon to Adam to Miller last night.  The Pads' relievers combined for 4.0 scoreless innings, struck out five hitters and only allowed one baserunner, a ground-rule double off the bat of Shea Langeliers in the eighth.  Jason Adam allowed the hit.  He also struck out the side nailing Kurtz, Rooker and Soderstrom, the heart of the A's lineup.

Impressive performance for the Padres' bullpen.  Lucas Giolito didn't allow an earned run but he walked five batters.  He gets the win and moves his record to 2-0 on the season.  

The Padres at 31-20 are half game back of the Dodgers in the NL West.  The loss puts the A's at .500, 1.5 games ahead of Seattle for best in the AL West heading into Sunday's action.  

Rangers 2, Angels 5

The Rangers didn't fare much better than the A's last night.  Nathan Eovaldi went 7.0 innings and records a quality start but Walbert Urena gets the win with 5.0 innings of one-run baseball.

Urena's Line: 5.0IP 5H 1ER 6K 3BB (93 pitches)
Eovaldi's Line: 7.0IP 5H 3ER 6K 2BB (97 pitches)

Urena escapes three walks.  He has yet to give up the big hit this season.  He stranded seven baserunners last night, striking out Jake Burger twice with two outs and the bases loaded.   

Eovaldi gets a loss tonight and falls to (5-5) on the season.  Jake Burger gets the dunce cap.

Today's Pick: A 2 Team Parlay

I have 1.56 units in play after yesterday's quasi-disappointment.   I'm going to rack a unit, and play a two team parlay tonight.  I've been stuck on 32 units banked for two weeks now.   I can't stand the number 32.  It has everything to do with Magic Johnson.  I don't like magic and I don't like Johnson.   Anyhow, now that we have 33 units in the bank, I feel better. Jose Canseco wore number 33.  Still one of my favorite players of all time.   No analysis today, I'm just making a pick.  My season for the most part is over.  I have 0.56 units in play, 4.0 units in my account, and 33 units in the bank.   The pick is a parlay on the Astros (-350) ML / Blue Jays (-175) ML for a (+105) payout. Wednesday, August 6th: No Pick Today

No pick today, there isn't much on the board that I liked.  I didn't dig into any games but the Giants and the Pirates early this morning.  I liked the Giants but they don't hit left handed pitching all that well and Pirates had a well rested bullpen.  The Giants won that game 4-2.   I had thought about putting on my three dogs play with the Rangers, Reds and the Royals.  The Reds are down 6-0.  That would have been a loser.   There are some games later this afternoon and some late games too but I am going to take a pass on the action today and see if I can find a good spot tomorrow.   I'm sitting at 5.36 units in play and have a four game Pickstreak on the line.  We'll look to make it five in a row tomorrow.
