Pick Result: PHI (+125) ML - WIN

This pick was a loss early.  The Phillies were down 6-0 after three innings and it wasn't looking all that good.  

Aaron Nola gave up six earned runs and a pair of homers and didn't make it out of the fourth inning.  Nola is officially off the mark.  He isn't pitching all that well and I wouldn't be surprised if Nola spends some time on the injured reserve sooner than later.  He has a history of injuries and something is definitely off with the righty.

Nola's Line:  3.2IP 6H 6ER 2HR 2K 3BB (80 pitches)

Philadelphia's bullpen wasn't well rested but the group stepped up last night.

"The Great Schwarbino" made it 6-3 in the fifth inning with a two-run blast off Pirates' starter, Braxton Ashcraft.  That opened the door to hope.  The Phillies were in the game.

Brandon Lowe answered in the bottom of the fifth with his second homer of the game.  A pair of errors in the bottom of the sixth led to another run.  8-3 Pirates after six.

Lowe's Line:  2-5, 2HR 3RBI 2R -- 2K 0BB

"The Great Schwarbino" does it again!  A two-run blast in the top of the seventh and its 8-5 Pirates.  The Phillies are back in striking distance.

To the ninth we go.  Phillies down 8-5.  Pirates get their best defense on the field and hand the ball to their closer, Gregory Soto.  An error and a walk, a base hit from Trea Turner, and the bases are jammed with one out.  Soto walks Schwarber, walks in a run, and Bryce Harper ties the game with a two-RBI base hit.  8-8 tie into the bottom of the ninth.

Jose Alvarado gets the ball for Philly and strikes out the side!  What an inning.  Big inning for Alvarado and the Phillies.

Phillies scored three in the top half of the tenth and held on for the win 11-9.  It was a great game.  Great win for the Phillies.  They are only a game under .500 after a slow start in April.

Today's Pick: A 2 Team Parlay

I have 1.56 units in play after yesterday's quasi-disappointment.   I'm going to rack a unit, and play a two team parlay tonight.  I've been stuck on 32 units banked for two weeks now.   I can't stand the number 32.  It has everything to do with Magic Johnson.  I don't like magic and I don't like Johnson.   Anyhow, now that we have 33 units in the bank, I feel better. Jose Canseco wore number 33.  Still one of my favorite players of all time.   No analysis today, I'm just making a pick.  My season for the most part is over.  I have 0.56 units in play, 4.0 units in my account, and 33 units in the bank.   The pick is a parlay on the Astros (-350) ML / Blue Jays (-175) ML for a (+105) payout. Wednesday, August 6th: No Pick Today

No pick today, there isn't much on the board that I liked.  I didn't dig into any games but the Giants and the Pirates early this morning.  I liked the Giants but they don't hit left handed pitching all that well and Pirates had a well rested bullpen.  The Giants won that game 4-2.   I had thought about putting on my three dogs play with the Rangers, Reds and the Royals.  The Reds are down 6-0.  That would have been a loser.   There are some games later this afternoon and some late games too but I am going to take a pass on the action today and see if I can find a good spot tomorrow.   I'm sitting at 5.36 units in play and have a four game Pickstreak on the line.  We'll look to make it five in a row tomorrow.
