Pick Result: "Payday" Parlay - LOSS
One for two last night with the picks, the "Payday" parlay bet is in the bin. It's a tough loss. KC had a late lead and the bullpen let us down.
In Game One, Cleveland got the win 3-2 on the back of 8.0 innings from Tanner Bibee. It was Bibee's best start of the year. He gets a no-decision in this one.

It was 1-0 Tigers into the top of the ninth. Drew Anderson emerged as a legitimate rotation option for Detroit with 4.2 innings of scoreless baseball. Anderson only allowed two hits and struck out seven. It was an impressive start for the righty who also gets a no-decision in this game.

The Tigers went to their bullpen in the fifth inning, throwing their best arms early, Finnegan, Hurter and Kenley Jansen combined for 3.1 scoreless innings. It seemed to be the right call but there was one big question.
Why was Jansen on in the eighth? Hall of Fame closer, Kenley Jansen, gets the call in the top of the eighth in a 1-0 game. The strange part about it, Angel Martinez and Jose Ramirez are both lefties. Tigers' manager, AJ Hinch, must have figured that, in a high-leverage spot, the righty Jansen was the best pitcher available to work the top of the Guardians' order. It worked out, Jansen gets three outs, and it's 1-0 Tigers into the ninth.
Jansen could have worked the ninth for a two-inning save but it was veteran righty, Will Vest. Vest gets the call and surrenders the tying run. The Guards' bullpen holds in the bottom of the ninth. It's a 1-1 tie into the 10th inning.
The Guards score two in the top of the tenth and hold the Tigers back for a 3-2 win. Great game, great pitching from both teams, questionable call bringing in Jansen in the eighth. It's going to cause some dissention amongst Hinch's bullpen. Jansen is likely upset about. He signed with Detroit to be the team's closer and is pursuing 500 career saves. It is a mark that only three players in history have ever reached.
Records aside, it's nice win for the Guards and our parlay bet is looking good.
In Game Two, Michael Wacha pitched as good as expected. Wacha throws 6.0 innings, striking out eight, and is in line for the win with KC ahead 3-2 into the seventh inning.
Connelly Early allowed a pair of homers, but didn't issue many walks, and that limited the damage. He managed 6.1 innings and kept Boston in the game. It was a good start for the rookie.
Steven Cruz replaces Wacha in the seventh. A base hit and a home run ball to Jarren Duran and it's 4-3 Boston. Boston's bullpen holds and our parlay bet is in the bin. Credit to Duran for the big hit and to Boston's bullpen for locking it down.
It's a tough loss for the Pickstreak blog. 1-3 on the season, down 3.0 units.
