Pick Result: NYM (-120) ML - WIN
It was a great game last night, a pitcher's duel in the desert.
I fell asleep early and am back to posting the Pick Result the following day for the late games. It is difficult to keep a regular posting schedule due to varying start times but I figure as long I keep the posts in order and post in somewhat of a timely fashion the regularity will produce a structure that is easy to follow and comprehend.
We nailed our analysis last night for the most part. Nolan McClean pitched six strong innings and it was Raley, Weaver and Williams out of the Met's bullpen with three clean frames. Mets held the Nationals to five hits and one earned run on a solo homer off the bat of Nolan Arenado in the bottom of the second.
The Diamonback's were in this game despite their lack of offense. Arizona starter Ryne Nelson found his A game and matched McClean inning for inning with 6.2 innings of two-hit baseball. It was Nelson's best start of the season.
Nelson's Line: 6.2IP 2H 1ER 1HR -- 7K 1BB (95 pitches)
It was a 1-1 game at the end of nine.
Enter Kevin Ginkel. It's the tenth inning with the Manfred (named after the MLB commissioner who instituted the rule) runner opening the frame on second base. A double from Mark Vientos scored Brett Baty. Carson Benge drove in another run with a double of his own. Ginkel takes the loss tonight and falls to 1-2 on the season.
Ginkel's Line: 0.1IP 3H 2R 1ER -- 1K 0BB (13 pitches)
With Mets' closer Devin Williams having pitched the ninth, Tobias Myers got the call. Myers came through with a big inning, retiring the side on a pair of strikeouts. Mets win 3-1 in 10 innings.
Game Balls:
Nolan McClean: 6.0IP 3H 1ER 1HR -- 6K 1BB (100 pitches)
Mark Vientos: 2-4, 1R 2RBI 1HR, with a double
A nice win for the Mets. They needed that game and head into tonight's game eight games under .500 at 15-23, 10.5 games back of the Braves in the NL East. The Mets picked up a game on the Braves who fell to the Dodgers last night 3-1 at Chavez Ravine.
A preseason win for the Pickstreak. We'll be back later this afternoon with another preseason pick.
