Pick Result: CLE (-120) ML - LOSS

The Royals kept it rolling with a 5-3 win over the Cleveland Guardians.  That's five in a row for KC.

Stephen Kolek (1-0) gets the win and it's a quality start for Kolek, his first of the season.

Kolek's Line:  6.0IP 4H 3ER 1HR 3K 0BB (83 pitches)

Gavin Williams was down early in this game, walking the lead-off hitter in the first inning.  Bobby Witt Jr. doubled and Salvador Perez drove in a pair on what would be his only hit on the night. 2-0 Royals after an inning of play.

Witt Jr.'s Line:  2-4, 1R with a double -- 1BB 1K
Perez's Line:  1-4, 2RBI -- 0BB 2K

The Guards would strike back and took the lead in the top of the fourth on a three-run blast from Rhys Hoskins.  Kolek handled the left-handed bats of Cleveland well but the power-hitting righty took him deep, pulling a 2-1 sinker into the left-field stands.

Hoskins' Line:  1-3, 1R 3RBI 1HR -- 1BB 0K

Williams couldn't hold the lead.  He didn't have his best stuff tonight.  Michael Massey took him deep, a two-run shot in the fourth, Massey's second round-tripper on the season.  Isaac Collins hit a dinger in the bottom of the sixth.  Williams would finish the sixth inning on the hook with the Royals leading 5-3.

Williams Line: 6.0IP 8H 5ER 2HR 7K 2BB (97 pitches)
Massey's Line: 2-3, 1R 2RBI 1HR -- 0BB 0K
Collins' Line: 3-3, 3R 1RBI 1HR 1SB with a double -- 0BB 0K

It's Issac Collins with a game ball in this one.  The left-fielder is hitting the ball well and is carrying a .366 on-base percentage (OBP) on the season.  Collins has turned it on after a slow start and is starting to look like the player who helped the Brewers get to the playoffs last season.  It's a big boost for a Royals' team that needs the offense.

Damn if it isn't another loss for the MLB Pickstreak.  2-4 on straight wagers this preseason.  It's still our preseason.  I'll have to get at least two more practice picks in to get our preseason record back to .500.

Back to the board tomorrow.

I am up late tonight.  It's 1:17 AM, so the nightly recap is unlikely.  My goal is to get the nightly recap posted by 10 PM so that I can get to sleep at a reasonable hour.  I have still yet to get a nightly recap post completed this preseason and if I can't get it figured out this week I'm going to scrap it all together.

I haven't thought about how I'm going to handle a late game result either.  I'll have to post the game result the following morning, same as I did last season.  I had wanted to open every new day with the Game Day post and this conundrum is throwing me off some too but I'll figure something out this week.

I really don't like being up this late.  It's going to screw up my circadian rythyms and I really like being in tune.  It's another conundrum.  I'm going to figure it all out.  If jt takes me an extra week of preseason picks, so be it.  That's what this preseason is all about and being that I am the Commissioner of the MLB Pickstreak, I can extend the preseason as needed.
