Game Day: Thursday, May 21st

I’m going to make this quick today, there are only seven games on the schedule and seeing that the Pickstreak blog has a three-game losing streak on its' hands, well, I'm taking the day off to relax some.

Rays have won four straight, swept the O's out of town, down 13 games in the division.  I wouldn't count them out but both Bradish and Rogers have bombed this season.  They are like a pair of bunker busters dropped on O's fans' hopes and dreams.

Rays and Yanks open a three-game series at Yankee Stadium on Friday.  That is going to be a good series.

Cleveland has won five straight and will look to sweep Detroit this afternoon.  Tigers are in the cellar in the AL Central, 8.5 back of the Guards.   Joey Cantillo (3-1) starts for Cleveland against Casey Mize (2-2) who gets the ball for Detroit.  Mize is Detroit's best active pitcher.  They'll need a good start out of him today.  Their bullpen is in disorder after last night's debacle.  Jansen is pouting but available to pitch.  Vest and Holton are both likely unavailable after pitching back-to-back games.  Guards put a stamp on it with a win.  Getting swept over a four-game series, at home, by a division rival, makes for a bad weekend.  Game Four of a four-game series from Comerica Park in Detroit, MI.  First pitch at 12:10 PM CDT.

Mets play for a split at Washington. Mets are borderline uninteresting but a win this afternoon and they are still afloat in the Sea of Interest.  It's Drew Peterson (2-4) for New York against Cade Cavalli (2-2) who gets the ball for Washington.  Nationals are playing .500 baseball and are in contention early.  Mets play nine games with Cincinnati and Miami to close out May.  Their schedule in June and July is a real gauntlet.  3:05 PM CDT first pitch from Nationals Park in DC.

A few other games around the league to close Thursday's action.  I'll be watching Sandy Alcantara (3-2) and Spencer Strider (1-0).  The Braves are in Miami for one more before returning home to Atlanta for a weekend series with the Nationals.  That game starts at 5:40 PM CDT at beautiful Loan Depot Park in Miami, FL.  Don't forget your swim trunks.  Is that pool still open?  Ridiculous.

Carlos Rodon (0-1) makes his third start of the season.  Garrett Cole takes the ball tomorrow in what will be his first start of the season.  Rodon and Cole are back for the Yanks.  Are they a better option than Weathers and Rodriguez?  Well, they both have big paychecks, they better damn well be.

That's it for us today.  I'm taking the rest of the day off.  No pick today.  Back tomorrow with a post and a pick.  Stay tuned.
