Game Day: May 6th, 2026
The Rays are hot! Winners of five in a row. They play for the sweep in an early game at the Trop in Tampa Bay, FL. It is an 11:10 AM CDT start.
Former Cy Young award winner Shane McClanahan faces off against veteran Patrick Corbin in an AL East showdown. The Rays were expected to finish in last place this season but it's Toronto that sits at 16-20, four games under .500. The Blue Jays have somewhat dissappointed early after spending big to acquire free agents Dylan Cease, Kazuma Okamoto and Tyler Rogers. It's a big game for the Blue Jays. A sweep at the hands of a division foe is a disheartening momentum buster. McClanahan is revved up and is looking for his third win in a row.
Astros host the Dodgers in Game Three of a three-game series at Daikin Park in Houston. The teams split the first two and will play for bragging rights today. It isn't a division game but it's a big game for the Astros who want to send the Dodgers out of town with a loss. A series win against the Dodgers will give them some good momentum into a weekend series with the Cincinnati Reds. The Astros need to get it together as they play seven games with their interstate rivals, the Texas Rangers, to close the month of May.
Astros got some bad news yesterday. They will be without all-star shortstop and team captain, Carlos Correa, for an extended period of time. Correa, it is reported, has a serious ankle injury of some sort. The details haven't been dessiminated. Correa is scheduled for imaging today in Houston.
It's rookie vs. rookie today in Anaheim. White Sox rookie phenom, Noah Schultz, faces off with Angels rookie hurler, Walbert Urena. Schultz is the big-time prospect and has pitched better than I had expectes to since being called up at the end of April. The 6'10 lefty is an imposing presence on the mound. The teams split the first two games of a three-game series. A series win is always the goal in a three-game series. Whose taking home the momentum?
Yankees have quietly put together a winning streak of their own, sweeping four from Baltimore over the weekend. They beat Jacob DeGrom and the Rangers in the series opener at Yankee Stadium yesterday and will look to make it six in a row with a win in an afternoon game that pits Rangers veteran, Nathan Eovaldi, against Yankees righty Will Warren. Eovaldi can be as a good as any pitcher in the league when he is on but it is Warren who has the bigtime stuff. Warren is off to a great start this season and has the game to be amongst the favorites for Cy Young in the AL in September.
Cubs host the Reds and are looking to win their eighth game in a row. KC has a five-game winning streak on against the Guards. It is always a big game with a winning streak on the line.
Pirates' ace Paul Skenes takes the mound against the D'Backs. It's always an event when Skenes is pitching. Michael Soroka is back as a legitimate rotation stalwart. He's been progressing year to year for a few seasons now and looks to have regained his top form. He can wipe a team out and can match Skenes inning for inning today. Diamonbacks have played well and sit at .500 on the season. It's the Wednesday Night Game of the Week and it should be a good one.
We'll be back this afternoon with Today's Picks. Practice Pick six of the preseason. Stay Tuned.
