Practice Pick: BAL (-140) over CHW

There are a few games I like today but I don't like making picks until teams have played 20 to 25 games.

I do really like Baltimore today.  The White Sox are getting credit for being a good team because of Murakami and the Orioles starter, Trevor Rogers, has been one of MLB's best since the beginning of the 2025 season.

Im going to use this as an opportunity to structure my betting slip, as a practice pick.  I'll make a few more practice picks into next week more so to get in a rythym of sorts with the picks and the posts.

That is going to be the structure of my betting slip.  I like to create a betting slip for each pick, it is mostly an interesting wrinkle to my Pickstreak Game.  In a way it is a meditation that keeps me on track with writing the posts.  It is a long season, writing the posts and tracking my picks and results keeps me anchored.

In my postgame report, Ill cover:

-Game results
-Wins/Losses and my overall season record
-Current Streak
-Longest Streak
-Bank Deposits / Rebuys

I like to keep three separate accounts all season:

Opening Account Balance:  I bought in for 50 units, this value will always be 50 units on every betting slip.

Current Account Balance:  My buy-in is held in a Cash App account.  I transfer funds from my Cash App account into the sportsbook account 1 unit at a time.

Units in Play:  This balance represents the current status of my Sportsbook account.  This balance grows as I string together winning bets and falls as I lose bets.  When I go bust in the sportsbook account, I refund the account from my current account until all the funds in the current account have been transferred or deposited.

Bank Balance:  My goal for the season is to grow my bank balance to 50 or more units.  In that way, I will have had a profitable season.  The Bank account is separate from both the Current Account and the Units in Play account.  At my discretion, I bank funds from my sportsbook account and take them out of play, or off the table.  These units can't be redeposited.

That is how I manage my funds all season.  In a way it is a system that keeps me focused on risk management.  Im always trying to bank units all season and in that way, limit my losses.

My buy-in at the beginning of the season is a sunk cost.  I begin the season down 50 units.  Over the course of the season, I have to win them back and put them in the bank.  I have to bet everyone of the 50 units deposited in the Current Account.  That is part of the game and in a way, keeps me from losing focus.  I would like to play all the way into September, so I have to make good picks, manage my risk and bank as many units as I can before the end of the regular season.

That is the Pickstreak Game.  It isn't all that much different from many professional sports gamblers but in some way it is unique to me because I developed it without any sort of advice or learning.  I created it for my own entertainment, as a way to track bets, wins and losses, winning percentages, and more because I enjoy the challenge of beating the bookies over the course of the entire season.

I don't use any computer programs or algorithms.  I do all my own research.  I never piggyback a pick on the advice of pundits.

My Research Tools:

-Superfan Sports App:  for boxscores and odds
-Baseball Reference:  for player stats / team stats / trends
-Fangraphs:  for roster updates / transactions / stats
-Baseball Savant:  for pitcher profiles / hitter profiles

I used to look at Ballpark Buddy but he went to a subscription and I don't pay for his service but Ballpark  Buddy I would like to have because that is the one service that I think I'd review daily.  That is the only service I think I would add to my mix.

That's it for today.  Practice pick is in, I put forth a good explanation of what Im up to this season on the MLB Pickstreak Blog - I dont take comments because most people are aholes.

Nice weather is back.  Im looking forward to summer.
