Practice Pick 3: SFG (-160) @ WSH

The Giants have a three-game winning streak on the line in this afternoon's game with the Washington Nationals.  They'll play a day game at Nationals' Park in Washington D.C. -- it's a 12:35 PM CDT start.

Robbie Ray (2-2) starts for the Giants.  Ray is out to a good start this season, posting a 2.42 ERA in 22.1 innings pitched.  His 4.65 fielding-independent pitching (FIP) suggests he hasn't pitched as well as the ERA might suggest but he is racking strikeouts at a rate of 9.67 K/9 and matches up well against Washington's lefty-heavy lineup.  Ray has been susceptible to right-handed power.  If he can pitch around Brady House and shut-down the Nats' lefty-bats, it should be a good day for the Giants' veteran.

Peter Poulin starts for Washington.  Poulin is a relief pitcher and is likely to only pitch one inning in opening the game for today's scheduled starter, Miles Mikolas.  Mikolas will still likely get the bulk of today's innings with Brad Lord available in long relief.  If Mikolas continues to pitch poorly, he has allowed 25 hits and six home runs in 15.2 innings this season, Lord will likely be needed for three plus innings.  The Nationals' bullpen has been worked early and isn't all that deep of a group.  Mikolas and Lord haven't been effective to begin the '26 season.

The Giants' bullpen is also worked at the top and is a liability to some extent but I like Ray to pitch six innings today and the Giants' bats have put up 17 runs in the first two games of the series against Washington.  

The Giants go for the sweep this afternoon.  Both teams enter at 9-12 on the season.  One team emerges with their 10th victory.  I'm betting that it will be San Francisco and like the price at (-160).

Today's Pick: A 2 Team Parlay

I have 1.56 units in play after yesterday's quasi-disappointment.   I'm going to rack a unit, and play a two team parlay tonight.  I've been stuck on 32 units banked for two weeks now.   I can't stand the number 32.  It has everything to do with Magic Johnson.  I don't like magic and I don't like Johnson.   Anyhow, now that we have 33 units in the bank, I feel better. Jose Canseco wore number 33.  Still one of my favorite players of all time.   No analysis today, I'm just making a pick.  My season for the most part is over.  I have 0.56 units in play, 4.0 units in my account, and 33 units in the bank.   The pick is a parlay on the Astros (-350) ML / Blue Jays (-175) ML for a (+105) payout. Wednesday, August 6th: No Pick Today

No pick today, there isn't much on the board that I liked.  I didn't dig into any games but the Giants and the Pirates early this morning.  I liked the Giants but they don't hit left handed pitching all that well and Pirates had a well rested bullpen.  The Giants won that game 4-2.   I had thought about putting on my three dogs play with the Rangers, Reds and the Royals.  The Reds are down 6-0.  That would have been a loser.   There are some games later this afternoon and some late games too but I am going to take a pass on the action today and see if I can find a good spot tomorrow.   I'm sitting at 5.36 units in play and have a four game Pickstreak on the line.  We'll look to make it five in a row tomorrow.
