04/18 - Postgame Report: Davis Martin Strikes Again

Davis Martin moved his record to 3-1 on the season and has emerged as the White Sox best starter early.  Martin pitched seven innings allowing only three hits and one earned run.  Martin is a finesse pitcher, relying on a six pitch mix to keep hitters guessing.  He doesn't have loud stuff but has continued to improve, now in his third season in a White Sox rotation that is still unsettled.

Martin's Line:  7.0IP 3H 1ER 4K 2BB (89 pitches)

It was an impressive start for the righty and the White Sox' bats woke up from a deep spring slumber putting nine runs on the board.  It was more than enough with the White Sox winning 9-2, ending a three-game skid.

Munetaka Murakami connected on his sixth homer of the season, finishing with three hits and four RBI.

Murakami's Line:  5AB 3H 2R 4RBI 1HR -- 2K 0BB

Murakami put the bat on the ball last night and raised his batting average (AVG) to .200 on the season.  His .361 on-base percentage (OBP) leads the team as does his .477 slugging percentage (SLG).

Murakami can hit.  The strike outs will likely tally up well this season but if he continues to get on base and hit dingers and posts an .800 or better on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS) he will be well worth the two-year committment that the Sox made to him this off-season.

Andrew Benintendi also collected three hits leading-off and the Sox 7-9 hitters (Edgar Quero, Chase Meidroth, Luis Angel Acuna) went a combined 6-13 at the plate with four runs scored between the trio.  That production from the bottom of the lineup wins games.

Benintendi's Line:  6AB 3H 2R 1RBI with 2 doubles

The A's bats were quieted last night and Aaron Civale was exposed to some degree.  He is still a five (fifth starter at the bottom of the rotation) at best.  Civale gave up 11 hits and five earned runs on the night.

Civale's Line:  4.2IP 11H 5ER 0HR 4K 1BB (103 pitches)

Elvis Alvarado didn't fare much better out of the A's bullpen.  Alvarado allowed the dinger to Murakami and gave up four earned runs on the night.

Alvarado's Line:  2.0IP 4H 4ER 1HR 3K 3BB (45 pitches)

The walks did Alvarado in but credit Davis Martin with this win.  He shut down a good-hitting baseball team.

MLB Pickstreak takes a loss on the night.

It's the preseason and I am still working on the structure of the postgame report.  In each postgame report, I'll update my overall record with the picks and my account status.   I'll also have some decisions to make in regards to my accounts.

If the pick is the winner, I'll have to decide on whether or not to bank units in play.  If the pick is a loser, I'll have to decide on how many units to move from my Current Account Balance (Cash App) to my Units in Play (Sportsbook Account).  This summary will be posted as follows at the end of each postgame report:

-------------------MLB Pickstreak Pick Results----------------

Pick Result:  ATH (-160) vs. CHW STR -- LOSS

Amount Wagered:  1.0 units
Ticket Pays:  0.0 units

Current Streak:  1L

Season Record (STR):  1-1
Season Record (PAR):  0-0

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------MLB Pickstreak Profit / Loss-----------------

Beginning Account Balance:  50 units
Current Account Balance:  49 Units
Bank Balance:  0 Units

Units in Play:  0 units

Units Banked:  0 units
Buy-In:  1 unit

Current Account Balance:  48 units
Bank Balance:  0 units

Closed Equity:  48 units
Open Equity:  1 unit

ROI:  -2.0%
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As you can see above, my Current Account Balance was reduced by 1.0 units as a result of my Buy-In.  I transferred 1.0 units from Cash App to my sportsbook account and have 1.0 Units in Play for tomorrow's games.

Beginning Account Balance will always be 50 units.  That is the amount I bought in for at the beginning of the season.

The Bank Balance is 0 units because I haven't banked any winners.  This is a separate account.  All withdrawals from my sportsbook account are made to a bank account that is separate from both the Cash App and the sportsbook account.  Once funds have been deposited in the bank account they can no longer be put into play this season.

I use this system mostly as a measured way to manage risk.  It is in a way a mechanism that allows me to continually work towards my goal of banking 50+ units on the season.

In some way, it makes banking winners a game within the game.  The mechanism has me continually thinking about how much I can afford to risk as well as how much risk I can take out of play.

That's how I manage my baseball accounts over the course of a long season.

That's it for today.  Back next week, the last week of my preseason.

Stay tuned.
