Game Day: Wednesday, April 29th

The Aces are out.  Drew Rasmussen and Gavin Williams face off in Cleveland.  The Rays have won six straight.  The Guards are losers of four in a row.

It's a big game when you have two teams with streaks on the line.  The Rays want to push it to seven.  The Guards are desperate to ease the suffering that comes with a losing streak.

Drew Rasmussen has quietly been one of the AL's most consistent and effective starters.  He enters with a 2.45 ERA and a 0.74 WHIP on the season.  Elite numbers.  Rasmussen is a free agent at the end of '26 and was certainly a candidate to be traded in July but if the Rays keep winning games, they'll have a difficult time justifying that trade to the fans in Tampa.

Elmer Rodriguez makes his first big-league start for the Yankees.  The Bombers farm-hand is one of a few good pitching prospects in AAA Scranton-Wilkes Barre.  Acquired from the Red Sox in a trade for catcher Carlos Narvaez a year ago, Rodriguez has the makings of a frontline starter and joins young aces Will Warren and Cam Schlittler in a Yankees' rotation that could be the best in MLB.  He'll face old stalwart, Nathan Eovaldi.  When Eovaldi has it going, he is one of the toughest in the game.

It's a big test for Sandy Alcantara today.  He'll face the Dodgers in Chavez-Ravine.  The league will be watching and the pressure is on.  Alcantara is a great pitcher who hasn't pitched in many big games since returning from his Tommy John surgery in '25.  It will certainly be a big boost if he pitches well and gets the win.  It will certainly be a setback if the Dodgers put a crooked number on him.  Tyler Glasnow starts for LA and he has pitched well this season.  Glasnow is a one on many teams around the league.  I'll be following the game and will be rooting for Sandy to get the win.

Tarik Skubal gets the Braves.  Atlanta leads the league in wins at 21-9.  It's JR Ritchie getting the start for the Choppers.  This should be an easy win for Detroit and the price is nice at (-145).  They are on the road, the Braves hit lefties well, but JR Ritchie is a rookie fresh off the farm and Tarik Skubal is the two-time reigning Cy Young champ.

A's and Royals in the late game.  A's find themselves at the top of the AL West entering tonight's game at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento.  It's a big game for the A's and the Royals, who have a four-game winning streak on the line.  Royals push it to five and they will be rolling into weekend on a high note.
