04/22 - Postgame Report: Trout Homers and the Halos Win
Another nice win for Anaheim, a 7-3 victory over the Blue Jays, the defending AL champs. The Angels avoid the sweep at home and head into their day off on a good note. They'll embark on a six-game road trip to the midwest likely tomorrow afternoon with games starting back up Friday night at Kaufman Stadium in Kansas City.
Jose Soriano picks up his sixth win of the season with five innings of shutout baseball.
Soriano's Line: 5.0IP 7H 0ER 4K 0BB (84 pitches)
Another good game from Mike Trout who is off to his best start in years. Trout leads the Angels in both on-base percentage and slugging.
Trout's Line: 1 for 3, 1HR 2R 1RBI 1SB -- 1K 2BB
The Halos hit a pair of homers off Eric Lauer, a solo shot from Schanuel in the fourth inning and the homerun from Trout, also a solo shot, in the bottom of the fifth.
Schanuel's Line: 2 for 4, 1HR 2R 4RBI with a double -- 1K 0BB
Lauer limited the damage to three runs and was out of the game in the top of the sixth, replaced by righty Tommy Nance. Nance struck out two, pitched a clean frame in the sixth and would get the ball in the bottom of the seventh with the score tied 3-3.
Lauer's Line: 5.0IP 7H 3ER 2HR 3K 2BB (79 pitches)
Nance got Neto to fly out, walked Trout and gave up a single to Jo Adell, first and third, one out when Blue Jay's manager John Schnieder gave Nance the hook.
Nance's Line: 1.1IP 1H 2R 2ER 2K 1BB (24 pitches)
The Blue Jay's went righty righty on Soler with Braydon Fisher entering the game. Fisher struck Soler out. Two down, the game is all square at three-a-piece.
Fisher's Line: 0.1IP 2H 2R 2ER 1K 1BB (20 pitches)
Angels Manager, Kurt Suzuki, calls for a pinch-hitter to bat for the righty, Oswald Peraza. Switch-hitter, Yoan Moncada, steps into the batter's box and draws a walk hitting from the left-hand side.
Moncada's Line: No official at-bat, 1R -- 0K 1BB
Bases juiced with the lefty, Nolan Schanuel, up to the plate. Schnieder had both his left-handed relievers available but decided to keep Fisher in the game. He underestimated Schanuel and Schanuel made him pay with a bases-clearing double, 6-3 Angels. The Halos would add another run in the inning on a base-hit from Vaughn Grissom, two-earned charged to Nance and two-earned charged to Fisher. Nance takes the loss, falling to (0-2) on the season.
Grissom's Line: 1 for 4, 1RBI -- 0K 0BB
The Angels' bullpen held up nicely after giving up three runs in the top of the seventh. Brent Suter racked a pair of K's in the eighth and picks up the win. Jordan Romano was called on for clean-up duty in the ninth. Romano allowed two hits but escaped without any damage.
Suter's Line: 1.0IP 0H 0R 0ER 2K 0BB (12 pitches)
Romano's Line: 1.0IP 2H 0R 0ER 2K 0BB (20 pitches)
It was a great game and a winning pick for the MLB Pickstreak blog. I'm 2-2 with the practice picks in what is still the preseason.
I am going to try and put together a nightly recap tonight with plans on making it a regular nightly post all season. It is a big commitment and I'm uncertain if I'll be able to pull it off but in addition to the picks and the post game reports, I'd like to add some commentary on the games and the trends from around the league.
I'm going to see how that goes tonight. It's all a work in progress. Always a work in progress.
Halos Hoo Hoo Ra. Nice to get a win.
