Today's Pick: NYY (-215) over MIN

Over the weekend I watched the Babe Ruth Story on Amazon Prime.  It was a short documentary film about "The Great Bambino" and it had a bunch of old footage of Babe Ruth and the Yankees.  75,000 fans attended opening day at "The House That Ruth Built."  It was a big ball park.  I don't think the new stadium holds that many fans.

Tonight it's the New York Yankees and the Minnesota Twins in a 6:40 PM CDT start at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.

Carlos Rodon (11-7) starts for New York.  The lefty likes to pitch at Yankee Stadium and has pitched far better at home all season.  Fellow lefty Max Fried has had a good season but Rodon is the Yankees ace and has stepped into a leadership role this season with Garrett Cole on the sidelines.  The Yanks will be in good spirits with their captain on the mound.

Rookie Travis Adams starts for Minnesota.  Adams has only thrown 19.2 innings this season in the big leagues and has posted a 6.82 ERA.  While it is a small sample size, it does reflect the fact that Adams has been hit hard when he is in the zone.  He doesn't issue many walks, has good control but doesn't have the stuff or the acumen to get hitters out for six innings.  He isn't a threat to post a quality start and Minnesota's bullpen is in the midst of a complete rebuild.  They traded five bullpen arms at the July 31st trade deadline.

The Yanks haven't been playing well.  They are 15-20 since July 1st and have fallen six games back of the Blue Jays in the AL East.  Boston has a 2.5 game cushion over the Yanks for second place in the divison.  But the lineup looks stacked tonight.  Aaron Judge is back at the designated hitter, Giancarlo Stanton is playing right field.  Goldy and Ben Rice are also both in the lineup tonight.  The Yanks have moved the rookie Rice back to his original position and he gets the start tonight at catcher.

Minnesota is looking awfully soft tonight.  Larnach, Wallner and Lee are all out of the starting lineup.  They have a rookie starter on the mound and their bullpen is full of projects.  They have been playing some good baseball, they took a series from the Tigers and another from the Royals but with three starters out, they will be hard pressed to score runs off the lefty Rodon.

The Yanks have Camilo Doval, Devin Williams and Mark Leiter Jr. available on a days rest.  Their bullpen has been shaky all season but they have some big time arms and all of them have shown the ability to lock it down.

I like the Yankees tonight.  The books have them as (-215) favorites.  It's a fair price for a pitching matchup than leans heavily towards the home the team.  I'm going to press it all on the Yanks to win.  I'm expecting some homers from the Yanks tonight too.  They are due for a big game at the plate.  Our current Pickstreak is at five games.  A win tonight ties our longest winning streak of the season.
