Today's Pick: Let's Play Two

No pick and no post yesterday.  It was a tiresome week. My Sunday work day involved mostly playing a lot of Bridge.  I've gotten pretty good at the game.  I find it to be a true card players game.  The nuances are far more complex than Euchre, Spades or Hearts.

In the baseball arena, I have been battling it out at the Trade Rumors all weekend.  The bickering is wearing on me.  This MLB season is a long one and I'm looking forward to the playoffs.

I have a strategy in place for the rest of the season and am flying loose the rest of the way.  I like two games today, both picks are on the starting pitching matchups.  Both picks feature home teams that are in contention versus teams that are out of contention.

Game One

It's the Milwaukee Brewers vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks in a 6:40 PM CDT start at American Family Field in Milwaukee, WI.

Brandon Woodruff (4-1) starts for the Brewers.  Woodruff makes his ninth start of the season this evening and he needs to have a good one.  It seems like the Brewers are managing his innings and relying on their bullpen to keep Woody fresh for the postseason.  I'm not expecting more than five innings out of Woodruff but like Ashby, Koenig, Mears and Miller in relief.  The Brewers should have a decisive advantage in the pitching matchup and the bullpen.

Eduardo Rodriguez starts for the Diamondbacks.  Arizona E-Rod came out firing in his return from AAA but has fallen off with the D'Backs out of contention.  Rodriguez can give the Snakes six innings but I'd count on at least three earned runs.  Arizona's bullpen is a motely crue but has pitched fairly well over the past week.

Arizona is playing good, they have won four of their last five but the Brewers are the better team, they have the better starter on the mound and are playing at home.

Today's Pick:  MIL (-180) over ARI
Units in Play:  2.00 units
Units Wagered:  1.00 units
Ticket Pays:  1.56 units (+0.56 units)

Longest Streak:  6

Total Units Wagered (Season):  122.92 units
Current Bank Balance:  4 units
Beginning Bank Balance:  40 units
Total Units Raked (season):  32 units
Profit / Loss (season):  -4.0 units
Overall Record:  51-30

Game Two

The Texas Rangers face off with the Los Angeles Angels in an AL West matchup.  It's a 7:05 PM CDT first pitch at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

Jacob DeGrom (10-5) starts for the Rangers.  DeGrom still has an outside shot at winning the Cy Young in the AL and there is no doubt in my mind that he will be pitching his best game tonight.  He only allowed two hits in his last start against the Blue Jays.

Jose Soriano starts for Anaheim.  Soriano gave up five earned in his last start against the A's and seven earned on August 5th against the Rays.  He has been fairly reliable all season but the Angels are fading fast and are out of contention .  Nolan Schanuel is out of the lineup and he has been one of the Halos best hitters all season.  The Angels bullpen has been real good over their last five games but the Angels aren't hitting the ball.  I'm looking for DeGrom to shut them out tonight.

I like both games.  If I win one of two, I'll have 1.56 units in play heading into tomorrow's action.  If I win both, I'll have 3.12 units in play heading into tomorrow's action.  My plan is to win both and rack a pair.  If I win one of two, I'll rack a unit and parlay the remainder.
