Postgame Report:. CIN (-145) Winner

The Reds beat the Braves 3-2 in the early game.  Brady Singer had the slider working today.  He struck out the side in the first, all three struck out swinging.  He loaded the bases in the second with one out, nailed right fielder Eli White swinging and got a fly ball out from second baseman Nick Allen to end the threat.  Ten strike outs in the game, eight of the swinging variety.  Singer pitched six scoreless innings and only allowed four hits.  It was his best start of the season.

Bryce Elder had a good start for the Braves and kept Atlanta in this game.  He managed to pitch 6.2 innings on 83 pitches.  Elder exited in the seventh with two outs and a runner on first.  Dylan Dodd got the call out of the Braves bullpen.  Braves Manager Brian Snitker went lefty lefty on Reds' center fielder Will Benson.  Benson has good power but strikes out a lot.  Going lefty lefty on Benson wasn't the worst call but it was Benson's day.  He sent a 2-1 cutter into the left field bleachers.  Avoiding the long ball was Snitker's agenda.  Dodd would like that pitch back.  Benson got his trot on.  3-0 Reds.

Scott Barlow and Tony Santillan combined for two scoreless in the seventh and the eighth.  Reds' closer Emilio Pagan, who took the loss in yesterday's game, had another shaky outing.  A lead off walk and a pair of hits scored a run and put the tying run on base with no outs.  A strikeout of Eli White and a sac fly from Luke Williams made it 3-2 Reds with the tying run in scoring position and two down.  A tight spot.  Lead off hitter Jurickson Profar at the plate.  Profar swung at the first pitch he saw, an 84 mph splitter, and grounded out to second base to end the game.

It was a sweat at the end.  The Reds' bullpen reenforcements won't be available until next week.  Their bullpen strategy at the trade deadline was adding Tampa starter Zach Littell to the rotation, moving incumbent starter Nick Martinez to the bullpen.  Martinez pitched two days ago and won't be available until next week.  Rookie starter Chase Burns is also moving to the bullpen when Reds' ace Hunter Greene returns sometime in August.  Burns has elite strikeout stuff and could be real good for the Reds in relief down the stretch.

It's a good win for the Pickstreak.  We needed to get a win today and we did.

I was going to play the Mets in the evening game but am hesitant with Robby Ray starting for the Giants.  Ray has pitched good this season.  I do like the Padres tonight but am going to look for a better spot.  The Padres added a bunch of players at the trade deadline and it could take a week before they get it together.

We'll shoot for two in a row tomorrow with 1.67 units in play.
