Today's Pick: PHI (-135) over NYY

I know I said I was going to cool it until the trade deadline passes but It's Zach Wheeler today against the Yanks.  The Phillies will look to sweep the Bronx Bombers in a 12:10 CDT start at Yankee Stadium.

This game has a wrinkle to it.  Aaron Judge will be out of the lineup with a flexor strain in his throwing arm.  The Yankee captain could potentially be out for the remainder of the season.  It's a devastating blow for the Yankees and for baseball fans.  Judge is the games' best hitter.  The Yanks aren't the same without him in the lineup.  

Don't count them out completely, they still have a good lineup and can still score runs but losing Judge could change their trade deadline strategy from buyers to potentially sellers.  They'd certainly love to move off Giancarlo Stanton and have Judge at DH down the stretch.

Zach Wheeler (9-2) starts for the Phillies.  Wheeler hasn't pitched as well on the road this season but the split isn't all bad news.  His road ERA of 2.89 is a better mark than the majority of starting pitchers across baseball.  It's Yankee Stadium.  Wheeler has a Cy Young in his sights.  It's a big game for the righty.  I don't think he'll belly flop but he could cannonball.  Either way, I like Wheeler to approach six innings today.

Carlos Rodon (10-7) starts for New York.  Rodon pitches better at Yankee Stadium than he does on the road and he vanquishes left-handed hitters.  That could take the Phillies two best bats out of this game.  Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper both hit from the left-hand side.  The big lefty is one of the games best and will have the home crowd behind him today.  Rodon thrives when he is in New York.  He has that New York attitude.  Mean mugged and nasty.  

I'd say the pitching matchup favors the Yankees today if I had to crunch the numbers on it.  It's hard to bet against either of these guys but I think Wheeler has the book on Cody Bellinger.  Bellinger doesn't hit the outside pitch well.  I think Wheeler strikes Bellinger out today and without Aaron Judge in the lineup, Wheeler will have some breathing room.  

It should be a great game.  The Yanks are up against it.  Getting swept at home is humiliating.  Their captain will be on the bench eating sunflower seeds.  Boone will be dreading the postgame interview all afternoon.  

I'm going to put a unit on the Phillies.  You don't get Wheeler at this price too often.

Today's Pick: A 2 Team Parlay

I have 1.56 units in play after yesterday's quasi-disappointment.   I'm going to rack a unit, and play a two team parlay tonight.  I've been stuck on 32 units banked for two weeks now.   I can't stand the number 32.  It has everything to do with Magic Johnson.  I don't like magic and I don't like Johnson.   Anyhow, now that we have 33 units in the bank, I feel better. Jose Canseco wore number 33.  Still one of my favorite players of all time.   No analysis today, I'm just making a pick.  My season for the most part is over.  I have 0.56 units in play, 4.0 units in my account, and 33 units in the bank.   The pick is a parlay on the Astros (-350) ML / Blue Jays (-175) ML for a (+105) payout. Wednesday, August 6th: No Pick Today

No pick today, there isn't much on the board that I liked.  I didn't dig into any games but the Giants and the Pirates early this morning.  I liked the Giants but they don't hit left handed pitching all that well and Pirates had a well rested bullpen.  The Giants won that game 4-2.   I had thought about putting on my three dogs play with the Rangers, Reds and the Royals.  The Reds are down 6-0.  That would have been a loser.   There are some games later this afternoon and some late games too but I am going to take a pass on the action today and see if I can find a good spot tomorrow.   I'm sitting at 5.36 units in play and have a four game Pickstreak on the line.  We'll look to make it five in a row tomorrow.
