Today's Pick: NYY (-145) over CHC

The Yankees put the Cubs down a peg last night with an 11-0 drubbing that likely has Chicago's general manager, Jed Hoyer, on the phone looking for a third baseman that can hit lefties.  Carlos Rodon smoked the Cubs last night:  8.0IP 4H 0ER 8K 1BB -- Kyle Tucker, Pete Crow Armstrong and Michael Busch went a collective 1-9 with four strikeouts gainst the lefty.

It's lefty Max Fried (11-2) starting for the Yankees this afternoon in game two of a three game series at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.  You could say that Fried is one of the top five left handed starters in MLB.  He has pitched well all season, to the tune of a 2.27 ERA over 119.0 innings.

Lefty Matthew Boyd (9-2) starts for Chicago.  Boyd has been equally as good as Fried this season.  He is a former top prospect who has battled injuries for most of his career.  I don't think many expected Boyd to pitch as well as he has.  When he got out to a fast start in March and April, I don't think many expected him to continue to have success throughout the summer.  But Boyd has thrived in '25, posting quality starts each and every time he takes the ball.

This afternoon Boyd will be tested.  The Yankees crush left-handed pitching.  Their ballpark is built for left-handed power hitters with a short porch in right field.  Former Cub, Cody Bellinger, hit three homers in yesterday's win, one off lefty Caleb Theilbar, another off lefty Jordan Wicks.  Aaron Judge has destroyed lefties all season. Paul Goldschmidt rakes against lefties.  Righty slugger Giancarlo Stanton will be in the middle of the lineup today.  It could be a long day for Boyd.

The Cubs haven't hit left-handed pitching all that well this season.  Two of their best bats, Pete Crow Armstrong and Michael Busch all but vanquish with a lefty on the hill.

New York's bullpen is well rested.  The Yanks are coming off a nice win and are at home with their ace on the mound.  I like the Bronx Bombers today and I like the price at (-145).
