Today's Pick: MIL (-250) over MIA

The Brewers are the hottest team in baseball at the moment.  Everybody has jumped their bandwagon and it's mostly because of Jacob Misiorowski.  The fireballer has created a lot of excitement around baseball.  He got an All-Star nod after only five major league appearances.  That's the MLB business today.  Get your stars as much press and publicity as possible even if it means bastardizing what was once important to players around the league.

Freddy Peralta (12-4) starts for the Brewers today.  Peralta is a true all star.  He is one of the leagues best pitchers and is the Captain of this Brewers' team. He reminds me some of Framber Valdez in that both are as reliable as it gets when it comes to getting good innings.  I make a lot picks on a lot of pitchers but with Valdez and Peralta, they always inspire this sense of calmness.  They both have this intangible quality to them that is hard to explain.  Some big time aces don't have it.  Max Fried doesn't have it, I'd say that Paul Skenes doesn't have it.  It's just two examples but Freddy has that special something to his game and I imagine the Brewers as a team feel the same way.  They always play their best when Peralta is on the bump.

Cal Quantrill (3-8) starts for the Marlins.  I think Quantrill has pitched better than his numbers tell it this season.  He carries a 5.24 ERA over 87.2 innings pitched.  He had a difficult April.  But since May 1st, Quantrill has been solid for the Fish posting a 3.98 ERA over 61.0 innings.

I like the pitching matchup in this game.  I like Peralta to pitch a good game and the Brewers have a good bullpen but where the Brewers get a big edge today is on the basepaths.  Milwaukee runs a lot.  They are fifth in the league in stolen bases.  Miami is dead last in the league in stolen bases allowed.  The Brewers put runners on base, they don't strike out a lot, they take a lot of walks and they put pressure on opposing teams by being aggressive on the basepaths.

I don't love the price at (-250).  Miami is a good team, better than their record and they have won three series in a row but with Peralta getting the start and with Miami's inability to keep runners honest this season, I like the Brewers to get a win over the Fish this afternoon and I'll lay the long odds for a small payday.
