Today's Pick: HOU (-200) over COL

The Astros have won three in a row and eight of their last ten and are looking to sweep the Rockies in a 2:10 CDT start at Coors Field in smoggy Denver, Colorado.  Despite the thin air and hipster culture, Denver is one of the smoggiest cities in the US.

Brandon Walter (1-1) starts for Houston.  Walter is flying somewhat under the radar getting a late May call up to the majors.  He is a lefty with a low arm slot, he almost throws the ball sidearm, and he has a late release point that makes it very difficult for righties to pickup the ball.   Walter works effortlessly and pitches well within his own strength, doesn't overthrow the ball, and has pinpoint control.  In 29.2 innings on the season, Walter has only issued two walks.  He gets a lot of ground balls, induces weak contact and can strike you out with a plus sweeper.  I think this guy can pitch with the best of them.

Kyle Freeland (1-9) starts for Colorado.  Freeland is in his ninth season with the Rockies and has pitched more innings for Colorado than any player in team history.  He enters with a 5.56 ERA on the season, his 3.85 FIP suggests that he has pitched better but a 1.60 WHIP and a low K/9 tell the story better:  he allows a lot of hits, he issues a lot of walks and he doesn't strike out many hitters.  Couple that story with the fact that he has allowed hard contact at a rate much higher than league average and you have  good recipe for runs scored.

Houston's offense is pretty good. They can score runs.  Houston's bullpen is the best in the league.  They are deep with good relievers.  I really like Houston's team with this bullpen that have put together this season and the two Aces that they have at the front of their rotation.  Colton Gordon and Brandon Walter have been the unsung heroes of this ball club.  Both have been outstanding for the Astros.

I like Houston to sweep the Rockies today and it's a good price with Brandon Walter on the mound.  Walter has the makings of a very good pitcher.  Get him cheap while you can.
