Postgame Report: TEX (-185) Winner
The coffee is good this morning. Rangers win 10-2 sticking it to the Orioles who have been riding a good wave towards the end of June.
Starting pitching is still the dominant factor in regards to winning ball games in a baseball game. All the gimmicks and righty / lefty matchups can't compete in the long run with a bull that can give you six innings of two run ball every five days.
Jacob DeGrom didn't dominate last night, the Orioles put the bat on the ball but could only manage five hits and a pair of runs off the righty. Give credit to the Rangers defense for making some good plays around the diamond and credit DeGrom for pitching well in tight spots.
Rookie Brandon Young's line doesn't look that bad in the box score: 4.0IP 6H 3ER 4K 3BB -- next to Orioles' reliever Matt Bowman's: 1.2IP 6H 4ER 1K 1BB. Bowman relieved Young in the fifth and was shelled.
With a five run lead, Ranger's middle reliever Jacob Latz earned a save the long way, pitching three scoreless innings to close out the game. The Ranger's bats would put another three runs on the board before it was all over.
DeGrom picks up his ninth win of the season and is well on his way to his fifth All-Star appearance. The Rangers move to 42-44 on the year and are in the mix for a wild card.
They don't have the depth in the rotation that they had coming into the season having lost Cory Bradford to a UCL injury but they have gotten good innings from Latz and their bullpen and will get Jon Gray back in the rotation at some point after the all-star break.
