Postgame Report: MIL (-250) Loss

Freddy Peralta pitched a great game for the Brewers today:  5.0IP 5H 1ER 9K 1BB but Cal Quantrill matched him inning for inning:  5.0IP 3H 1ER 4K 0BB.  Quantrill pitched the better game.  It took Freddy 98 pitches to get his five in.  Quantrill was at 65 pitches when he exited in the sixth.

The score was tied at one apiece in the top of the seventh.  Brewers manager,     , left Aaron Ashby in to work the seventh after a shaky sixth. Ashby is a former starter, he's your best long man out of the pen, it's a 1-1 game, saving your high leverage arms for the weekend was the right call.  Ashby again gave up a base hit to the lead off hitter.  He put him in scoring position with an errant pickoff attempt and was pulled with one out and a runner in scoring position.

Righty Nick Mears got the call.  I guess you want to get righty righty here on Agustn Ramirez with a runner in scoring position but there is only one out and the lefty Stowers is on deck.  Ashby could of worked to Ramirez and been lefty lefty on Stowers.  Mears made it a moot point.  He walked them both to load the bases.  Otto Lopez hit a bases clearing double and traveled to third on an error by center fielder Blake Perkins.  A sac fly from Liam Hicks would make it 5-1 Marlins into the bottom of the seventh.

Anthony Bender shut down the Brewers in the seventh.  Ronny Henriquez nailed down the eighth.  They have been the Marlins two best relievers this season and got it done again this afternoon.  Calvin Faucher closed out the ninth.  Marlins win 5-1.

It was a closer game than the score tells it.  Credit Cal Quantrill with the win today.  He gets a no decision but it was Quantrill's five inning duel with Freddy Peralta that put the Marlins in position to win.

The Marlins are a good team.  They move their record to 49-53 with the win this afternoon.  I still expect them to be sellers at the deadline.  Id still count them as out of contention but ghey have played well all season.  It has been a good year for the Fish.

That's it for me today.  I had planned on playing two today if the Brewers won the early game but they didn't so Im taking the night off.
