Today's Pick: SEA (+110) over ARI

We are back to the picks after a few days off.  The Mariners and the D'Backs are both hovering right around .500 on the season and face off in game three of a four game series at Chase Field in downtown Phoenix, AZ.  They split the first two with George Kirby striking out 14 snakes in Sunday's game.  It was the D'Backs bats with eight runs that made the difference in yesterday's affair.

Logan Evans returns to the bigs and gets the start tonight for Seattle.  Evans has made a handful of appearances for the Mariners this season and while the rookie hasn't been overpowering he has been consistent.  His primary setup pitch is an 87 mph cutter and he has two looks to his fastball, utilizing a combination of four seamers and sinkers -- both pitches sit around 93mph.  He uses his off speed stuff for the putaway, a package that includes a good sweeper, a tight low 80's curveball and a changeup.  Evans throws all of his pitches all of the time and mixes it up like a Cuisineart.  It's a six-pitch arsenal that he commands well and that has helped the rookie post a 2.83 ERA over his first six MLB starts.

Brandon Pfaadt starts for Arizona.  Pfaadt has had two bad starts in a row.  He didn't record an out against Washington on May 31st, pegged two hitters, allowed six hits and eight earned runs.  In his last start against the Braves on June 6th, he only managed three innings, walked a pair, allowed five hits and five earned runs.  He posted a 5.49 ERA in the month of May over 26.2IP and his K/9 ratio is down substantially in '25.  Pfaadt has been off his game for a while now.

Arizona's bullpen is a wreck.  They threw seven relievers in yesterday's win and aren't well rested.  Their best reliever, Justin Martinez, exited yesterday's game with elbow trouble.  Christian Montes De Coco is also unavailable with an elbow injury.

The Diamondback's are a better hitting team than the Mariners but Crawford, Rodriguez, Raleigh and Arozarena have been good at the top for Seattle.  Jorge Polanco, DJ Moore and Rudy Tellez add some slugging to a lineup that can score some runs when the ball is carrying well.  Matt Brash has been excellent out of the M's bullpen and is available on a day's rest.

I like Seattle to win tonight.  I think the rookie Logan Evans can keep the Mariners in this game. With Pfaadt starting and the current state of the D'Backs bullpen, I'm expecting Seattle to score some runs.  With 6.2 units in play, I'm going to rack four units and press 2.2 units on the Mariner's at (+110).
