Today's Pick: SDP (-150) over PIT

We are back to the picks after digging into our stats all weekend, it's a relief in a way.  I like the numbers but working on those spreadsheets all day gets to be taxing on the constitution.

I like the Padres this afternoon in a 4:10 CDT start at Petco Park.

The Padres were 13-13 over the month of May and haven't hit the ball all that well over the past month but they are fully healthy.  The lineup card is posted and this afternoon it will be:

Tatis Jr.
Arraez
Machado
Merril
Sheets
Bogaerts
Cronenworth
Iglesias
Diaz

They might not be swinging the bats all that well but it's still one of the best lineups in baseball.  I like to see Jose Iglesias getting a start today.  He has been a consistently clutch hitter since last season's run with the Mets.

The pitching matchup at first glance doesn't look to favor either team heavily but I like Randy Vasquez who starts for the Padres.  Take a closer look at the numbers and Vasquez is the better starter tonight.  Over his last five starts, he has pitched 28.0IP, posting a 2.89 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP.  Vasquez can certainly give the Padres five or six good innings and their bullpen has been one of the best in MLB.  The Padres top four relief pitchers are well rested and available.

Lefty Andrew Heaney starts for Pittsburgh.  Heaney got off to a great start this season but has shown signs of arm fatigue over the past month.  He has posted a 4.83 ERA and a 1.74 WHIP over his last five.  His 0.87 K/BB ratio over his last five starts (15 BB's and only 13 K's in 24.2IP) is ripe for the picking.   Pittsburgh's short in the bullpen, their top three are all likely to be traded at the deadline, and all three pitched last night.

Pittsburgh's bats have shown signs of life in May, posting a respectable .274/.355/.420 slash over the past week, but no Joey Bart tonight and Endy Rodriguez starts in place of Henry Davis.

We are coming off a loss, the Kevin Ginkel explosion back on 05/27, and have bought back into the game with one unit.

I like the Padres in this one and I really like the price at (-150).
