Today's Pick: LAD (-235) over WAS

The USA bombed Iran in what officially kicks off WWIII.  It's a strange day in a way, waking up to the news.  I think back to WWII and Vietnam, life back here in America carried on and it will certainly carry on this time around too but it is a different century, a different era, who can tell how this war develops and what the effects will be on people here in the states and around the world.

The baseball season also plays on today.  There isn't a military draft, as far as I know, players aren't at risk of having their card pulled for a tour in the East Bank.  So we play on.

The Dodgers are a lock to make the post season.  Their B team could make a good run at a wild card in the National league. The Nationals are all but out of it.  They posted a win against the Dodgers yesterday but are just 2-8 over their last ten and 13 games under .500.

Shohei Ohtani starts for the Dodgers.  He made his first start of the season last week.  Dave Roberts only had him on the mound for an inning in that outing. Ohtani gave up a pair of hits and an earned run before handing the ball over to the bullpen with Ben Casparius handling most of the work.

It will likely be Casparius again today with Matt Sauer in AAA OKC and Justin Wrobleski having thrown 74 pitches on Wednesday.

Michael Kopech, Anthony Banda, Alex Vesia, Kirby Yates and Taylor Scott are all available on a days rest.  It will be a bullpen game for the Dodgers today.  The Dodgers bullpen has some good arms.

Michael Soroka (3-5) starts for Washington.  He missed the first month of the season due to an injury and didn't pitch all that well in May but has had a better go of it lately posting a 4.48 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP over his last five starts.

Soroka's fastball has been slugged like Sonny Liston.  He relies on a plus slurve and a plus changeup to get outs but he has pegged seven hitters this season.  He keeps the ball down better than most but he has also allowed 1.9 HR/9 on the year.

If Soroka gets through six it will have been a successful start.  I think it's unlikely that he does and the Nationals bullpen has been one of the worst in MLB.

This pick is on the Dodger's offense.  They lead the league in batting average, hits, home runs and runs scored.  They have also hit better at home this season, posting a slash of .276/.355/.494 at Chavez Ravine Stadium.  The Nationals have averaged a meager 3.05 runs per game in June.

I like the Dodgers and I am pleasantly surprised by the price.  With 2.76 units in play and the American Odds at (-235), I'm going to press it all on LA.
