Postgame Report: PHI (-160) Loss

Another low scoring game in Houston between the Phillies and the Astros with the Astros once again emerging victorious, a 2-0 win for Houston.

Zach Wheeler pitched about as expected:  6.0IP 4H 1ER 8K 3BB -- but Philadelphia couldn't generate any offense off the Astros' rookie hurler Colton Gordon.  Gordon pitched five innings, only allowed four hits, and struck out four.  He wasn't in danger of allowing an earned run at any point with only one base runner reaching second base.  It was a great start for Gordon.

The Astros bullpen didn't allow a run.  Okert struck out the side in the sixth.  Bennett Sousa pitched a clean frame in the seventh.  Bryan King got into trouble in the eighth.  Base hits from Brandon Marsh and Trea Turner put two on for Kyle Schwarber.  He hit a dribbler to first, good for an infield single but couldn't score Marsh from third.  With the bases loaded, Alec Bohm just missed a 2-2 fastball.  He was retired on a foul tip third strike.  Castellanos hit with the bases loaded as well, a ground out to shortstop ended the inning.  King escaped the eighth unscaved.  Josh Hader locked down the ninth for his 21st save.  He is 21 for 21 in save opportunities and has been the league's best closer this season.

Credit Colton Gordon with this win.  He won the game for the Phillies.  He shut out a good lineup for five innings for a victory that he will likely remember for the rest of his life.  Earning a win over Zach Wheeler as a rookie is as good as it gets.

The Astros win and the Pickstreak is back to the board working off a loss with one unit in play.
