Postgame Report: NYY (-160) Winner
All right another win for the Pickstreak, that's four in a row. How do you like them olives? I love olives.
The Yankees love swatting home run balls. They had four on the day. New York got it going in the first. Lefty Trent Grisham took a 2-2 curve ball from Zach Eflin over the short porch in right to make it 1-0 Yanks. In the second it was lefty JC Escarra and lefty Ben Rice going yard, also to right field. Three homes allowed in the first two innings for Eflin. It didn't get any better in the third. The O's hurler allowed five base hits and three earned runs before heading for the showers. It wasn't Eflin's day. The Yankees left-handed hitting teed off on him like Freddy Couples at the Masters.
The same can't be said for Clarke Schmidt. Schmidt extended his scoreless inning streak to 20.2IP with seven innings of no hit ball. The righty had a no hitter working when he was pulled after 103 pitches. A terrible call from my perspective. You have to let him pitch until he gives up a hit no matter what the pitch count is but great start for Schmidt who moves to 4-3 with the win. He struck out five on the day, four of the five were righty lefty matchups. It's that knucklecurve ball he works on lefties that has been so effective for him throughout his career.
With a 9-0 lead after six innings, the Yanks called JT Brubaker out of the bullpen for mop up duty. The Orioles had enough sun on the longest day of summer. Yankees win 9-0.
Baltimore's two game winning streak was snapped like an edamame at an all you can eat Chinese buffet. It is a humbling reminder for a team that has had struggles all season with their rotation. Clarke Schmidt, the Yankees number three, is an ace. Zach Eflin, the Orioles ace coming into the season, is a four or a five at best.
A full slate of games tomorrow. There should be a pick for us as we look for our fifth win in a row.
