Postgame Report: HOU (-165) Winner

It was a good game last night, both starters had off nights, Valdez walked five A's hitters, Severino gave up nine hits, both escaped having allowed only two earned runs.

It was good defense for the Astros that limited the scoring.  In the third, Astros catcher Yanier Diaz nailed Jacob Wilson stealing second base.  Isaac Parades went around the horn to nail Wilson in the fifth for a 5-4-3 double play.  Both plays kept the A's at bay.  2-1 Astros after five.

Severino exited the game in the sixth inning having thrown 97 pitches.  A's reliever, Tyler Ferguson, would also exit in the sixth after allowing six earned runs on six hits.

The Astros batted around and capped off a seven run sixth with a three run blast from Victor Caratini.  9-1 Astros.

The A's bullpen allowed 11 hits, nine earned runs and two homers in 4.0IP.  Another bad loss that you have to put on the bullpen.

Credit the Astros offense with another big night at the plate. They can really hit one thru nine.  The Astros had 20 hits in the game and the bottom of their lineup (6-9) accounted for 11 of them.

Valdez gets the win, his eighth of the season.  The Astros move to 43-31, 5.5 ahead of the Mariners in the AL West.
