Today's Pick: NYY (-325) over COL

The Yankees lost 3-2 last night to the Rockies in Colorado.  It was Colorado's ninth win of the season.  Even the worst team in baseball can win one against the cream of the crop.

Despite the loss, the Yanks are big favorites this afternoon with Max Fried starting.  Fried is 6-0 and is considered one of the best starters in MLB.  He has averaged 6.2 innings per start and carries a 1.29 ERA.  That works out to about one run allowed every start.  I'll take that from my starting pitcher every night.

The Rockies have a few players that can hit the ball.  Beck, Tovar and Goodman have put up good numbers on the season, but get past Toglia in the four hole and it's a cruise back to the top.

Lefty Kyle Freeland starts for Colorado.  Freeland has been the Rockies most consistent starter over the past few seasons, but his calling card has been his ability to eat up innings.  He hasn't been an ace in any regard.  He is consistent.  He doesn't walk a lot of hitters.  He can get through six innings without losing the game, but he has a 5.68 ERA and has given up 12.61 H/9.

The Yankees are going to hit left handed pitching.  If the Yanks are facing a lefty starter, it's always a good bet.

This is a game that I would have liked to have played with more units available, but I'm coming off a loss, and always buy in for one unit.  It is an integral part of my system that keeps me from chasing my losses and blowing myself up.

To be honest, that loss last night has me looking for action.  I was on the brink of having a decent roll in play.  I'm looking at parlays, looking at bad bets for plus money, trying to get back up quick.  That's gambling and that's what losses can do to your demeanor.

Risk management is the most important aspect of having a profitable season.  If you get loose with the way you manage your bankroll because you can't handle losing, it usually leads to unsound bets and risk taking that isn't justified.

The Yankees are a good bet tonight.  The price is fair at (-325).  I have one unit in play and I'm going to press it all for a small payday.
