Today's Pick: NYY (-120) over SEA
I like the Yankees today coming off a loss in a day game with the Seattle Mariners.
Will Warren starts for the Yankees. With both Garrett Cole and Luis Gil on the DL, it has been Warren filling in. The former 8th round pick out of Southeastern Louisiana State wasn't highly regarded as a prospect but has made the most of his opportunity this season. The rookie hurler is coming off his best start. I like his 3.50 K/BB ratio and his ground ball rates have been better than league average. Warren's FIP of 3.60 puts him amongst baseball's top 30 starters.
Luis Castillo starts for the Mariners. Castillo has had some good starts, he has had some bad starts. His 1.385 WHIP and 1.83 K/BB ratio are both well off his career marks. He has yet to find the form that made him an all-star in 2023. He is a veteran and can pitch, but those numbers are indicative of a pitcher who gives up runs.
The Yankees offense has averaged nearly seven runs per game over their last ten. The Mariners have averaged just 3.4 runs per game over the same time period.
Will Warren can keep the Yankees in this game, and Luis Castillo isn't the ace that he once was. Matt Brash and Andres Munoz will likely be unavailable for Seattle.
I like the Yankees to win today and think there is some value at (-120).
