Today's Pick: CIN (+170) over ATL
Main Force Patrol nearly ran me down last night but we survived and enter the Thunderdome with 1.65 units in play.
I look at tonight's Braves vs. Reds game at Truist Park in Atlanta as a 50/50 proposition, and like the Reds at (+170). The Reds opened at (+136) which says that a lot of early money has come in on the Braves. I can't see the logic in that and I'll tell you why.
6'6'' lefty Nick Lodolo starts for Cincinnati. His season has been a mixed bag. He got shelled in his last outing by the Nationals, a home start at The Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati. However, Lodolo has pitched far better on the road this season, working to a 1.07 ERA over 25.1IP in away games.
Atlanta's offense has slumped over the past week but it's their line against left-handed pitching that has me leaning towards Cincinnati. The Braves have hit just .205/.270/.348 on the season against lefties compared to .248/.322/.398 against righties. That's a fairly significant split.
The Reds bullpen has thrown a lot of pitches over their past two games but I like Lodolo to get through six innings and lefty Taylor Rogers is well rested. It will be mostly left handed pitching tonight for the Reds.
For the Braves, it's Spencer Schwellenbach. Schwellenbach should have garnered some Rookie of the Year votes last season, and has pitched well in his sophomore campaign, working to a 3.92 ERA and an impressive 5.47 K/BB ratio on the season. But Schwellenbach has been hittable, and has allowed 19ER in 21.1IP over his last four starts.
I like the Reds to win tonight and split their series with the Braves. With 1.65 units in play, I'm going to press it all at (+170).
