Today's Pick: CHW (+120) over MIA
It's a hometown homer pick on a sunny Sunday in Chicago. There is a town here in Illinois, south of the big city -- Homer, IL -- home of Ozinga Concrete. I think the mob buries people there. That's Chicago for you.
Sean Burke starts for the White Sox. He has had two decent starts in a row. The mystery around Burke this season has been his K/9 ratio. The 6'6'', 240 lbs. righty struck out 28.9% of opponents faced in 2024. It was a limited sample size but Burke had been known to be a strike out pitcher across both his collegiate and minor league efforts. His control hasn't been an issue, he hasn't been hit all that hard, but the strikeouts have dried up. He is either harboring an injury, or hasn't hit his stride.
Sandy Alcantara has also been somewhat of a mystery. Most expected Alcantara to hit the ground running in his return from Tommy John surgery, but he has pitched poorly working to an 8.42 ERA over 31.0IP. He is issuing walks at 5.23BB/9 and is striking out hitters at a career low of 6.68K/9. It's been six starts now, Alcantara is a dog until he proves otherwise.
Both bullpens are taxed, both offenses are slumping, but the Sox are at home, and the sun is shining.
I like the White Sox today at (+120). I think it is at worst a 50/50 proposition, leaning 60/40 to the White Sox with how bad Alcantara has pitched.
With 2.05 units in play, I'm going to rack a unit and press the remainder. It's a free rolling Sunday afternoon.
