Postgame Report: NYC (-120) Winner
The Yankees wrap up a six-game west coast roadtrip with a 3-2 win over Seattle and will fly back to NYC the victors of three series in a row.
Will Warren had his best start of the season. He struck out the side in the second and finished with nine strikeouts over 5.0 innings of work. Warren had the curveball, sinker, sweeper and the changeup working today. He doesn't get the win, but give him the game ball. He did more than keep the Yankees in the game, he pitched like an ace.
Luis Castillo also pitched well. He threw six innings, striking out six while only allowing one earned run. Castillo also gets a no decision today but will record a quality start. Worries about his slow start should be tempered. He still has his A game.
The Yanks took the lead late on a pair of homers. Paul Goldschmidt hit his fifth longball of the season in the seventh, Aaron Judge hit his 15th smash in the eighth, and the Bronx Bombers were up 3-2. Judge is hitting .412/.497/.782 on the season. That is good for an astounding OPS of 1.279. He is on pace to hit 58 homers on the season.
Luke Weaver nailed down the ninth for his fourth save. He overpowered the bottom of the Mariners lineup, striking out the side on 15 pitches. Weaver has a 0.47 ERA on the season.
The Yankees are good. Will Warren is a good pitcher and could make a run at the AL Rookie of the Year. Luke Weaver has developed into an elite closer. Paul Goldschmidt, at 38, is hitting like he did at 28. Aaron Judge is the best hitter in the world.
A good win for the Pickstreak blog. Back to the board tomorrow with 1.83 units in play.
