Postgame Report: LAD (+105) Winner
"Hey, somebody get Arizona E-Rod a cold Chelada and a shot of tequila." That was the sentiment last night in Arizona. The Dodgers delivered Eduardo Rodriguez's retirement papers along with nine hits and eight earned runs. Rodriguez was pulled in the second inning.
Roki Sasaki didn't have a great start for LA: 5IP 5H 5ER 0K 2BB, and the Dodger's bullpen didn't save the day. Anthony Banda walked three, and allowed four earned runs on three hits. The Snakes took the lead 9-8 in the bottom of the sixth.
Arizona's bullpen held up. Former Dodger Cristian Mena looked sharp, striking out five over 3.2IP. Jalen Beeks and Shelby Miller pitched clean frames. Arizona added a pair of runs and had an 11-8 lead into the ninth.
Enter Kevin Ginkel. The 6'4 righty has been one of Arizona's most reliable relievers the past two seasons. After last night's tornado, he has a 15.43 ERA. Ginkel allowed three hits, pegged Michael Conforto, and was sent out of the game on a three run homer off the bat of none other than Dodger superstar Shohei Ohtani. Off season acquisition Taylor Scott nailed down the ninth for the Dodgers.
Credit the Dodger's offense with the win. Ohtani finished the night 3-6 with four RBI and a homer. Freddie Freeman picked up a pair of hits and has a .366 AVG on the season. Veteran utility man KeKe Hernandez got a start and went 3-5 with two RBI and a homer.
It was a comical loss for the D'Backs. Kevin Ginkel has to be taking some heat for allowing that home run. For some reason it is so funny to get blown up by Ohtani. Ginkel certainly cast some shade on Rodriguez's bad start.
A tumulteous win for the Pickstreak blog. Back to the board tomorrow with 2.05 units in play.
