Postgame Report: CHW (+120) Winner
Occasionally, it is nice to have good fortune on your side. Like the old saying goes, "The sun shines on a dog's ass every once in a while."
Rookie Tim Elko hit his first major league homer in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the White Sox up 4-1. Elko deposited a 1-0 curveball from starter Sandy Alcantara into the centerfield bleachers.
It wasn't a great start for Alcantara, he walked three, gave up seven hits and allowed four earned runs in 5.2IP. He did manage to record eight strikeouts, however, and that is a good indication that he still has his strikeout stuff. I still believe it is just matter of time before Alcantara gets it going and returns to form.
For the White Sox, Sean Burke had another questionable start. It took him 91 pitches to get through 4.0IP. He walked five, allowed four hits and only recorded two strikeouts. While he never got into too much trouble, the K/BB ratio is concerning. Burke is a strike out pitcher. Where are the strikeouts?
Credit catcher Matt Thaiss with a pair of big defensive plays behind the plate. He nailed Xavier Edwards trying to steal second base in the first and picked off Nick Fortes at third base in the fourth. Both plays helped Burke to limit the damage to just one earned run.
Chicago's bullpen didn't overpower anybody but got the job done. Rule 5 selection Mike Vasil pitched three innings in long relief and Cam Booser nailed down the ninth to record his first save of the season.
Back to the board tomorrow with 2.20 units in play and a two game Pickstreak on the line.
