Postgame Report: DET (-125) Winner
I jammed myself up with this grandiose plan that I devised in the early morning hours. I was up early, as opposed to being up late. The plan is working out so far. Maybe some kind of predawn mysticism? I don't practice much in the realm of superstition and luck. I try to stick to the numbers and the logic and my own innate instincts.
The Tigers won their noon game 4-3. The game finished on time, and I got the Phillies pick in right before the 3:05 PM start in Chicago.
It wasn't a great start for Casey Mize but he gets the win today. Eight hits, no walks, and one earned run allowed. He pitched well with baserunners on, striking out five and stranding eight over 5.1IP. Brandon Young walked five and gave up another four hits in 4.2IP. That's not a good recipe but Young managed to get out of the game with only three earned runs charged against him. Credit him with six K's.
Westburg, O'Hearn and Urias each collected three hits for Baltimore and the Orioles outhit the Tigers 11-8 but it was timely hitting and clutch pitching from Mize and closer Will Vest that was the difference today. Mize picks up his fourth win. Vest is 3-3 in save opportunities.
